Lee Asher
Lee Asher (born 1976) is a close-up magician noted for originating new card tricks and hypnotic sleight of hand moves. He is considered an expert in playing cards, and as a collector is especially known for his work with 52 Plus Joker, the American Playing Card Collectors Club, of which he is the serving President. He has served as a magic consultant for professional magicians such as Greg Frewin. Early Years Lee Asher was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as the older of two children. His father Mark Horowitz managed an optometric practice, but was a semi-professional magician who learned magic as a boy from Al Flosso and Lou Tannen in New York City in the 1960s. He attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland until 1994, and in 1999 completed a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality (with an emphasis on Casino Administration) at the University of Nevada/Las Vegas. Magic (illusion)
Magic, which encompasses the subgenres of illusion, stage magic, and close up magic, among others, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by tricks, effects, or illusions of seemingly impossible feats, using natural means. It is to be distinguished from paranormal magic which are effects claimed to be created through supernatural means. It is one of the oldest performing arts in the world. Naipes Heraclio Fournier S.A. is a well known Spanish playing card manufacturer based in Vitoria and which has its factory in Legutio (Spain). This company is property of the United States Playing Card Company, which is a subsidiary of the Turnhout, Belgium–based Cartamundi. History In 1785 Francisco Fournier went to live to Burgos. He was French. He married a wealthy Spanish woman called Maria de Reoyo. They had a son called Lazaro Fournier. Lazaro married another Spanish woman called Paula González. They had four children. Jerry's Nugget Playing Cards
In 1970, the Jerry's Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada printed a special deck of cards that was not used in their casino, but was sold in their gift shop for fifty cents each. These decks have become highly desired by collectors due to their unique handling qualities, and almost fifty years later they now fetch upwards of $500 per deck on the second-hand market. The signature design of the card backs shows an image of the oil derrick sign from the parking lot of the casino, set against a solid blue or red background. This sign also appears on the deck's joker. History Jerry's Nugget playing cards were printed in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then were driven to the North Las Vegas casino via trucks where they sat in storage for many years. Kaufman and owned by Randy Pitchford. The magazine is based in Washington, DC. The Magic Circle is a British organization dedicated to promoting and advancing the art of magic. Applicants must qualify for membership, either through a performance exam or by a written thesis on a branch of magic, after which they are designated Members of The Magic Circle (M.M.C.). Further distinctions may earn them the titles Associate of the Inner Magic Circle (A.I.M.C.); and Member of The Inner Magic Circle (M.I.M.C), a select group limited to 300 members. Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp
Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp is a performance arts camp dedicated to teaching the art of magic to young people. History Sorcerer's Safari is the creation of Torontonian Mike Segal, who has worked as a magician since high school. In 1996, the program started with only a small number of day campers only. In 1997, ten magic enthusiasts joined Segal and his wife and staff at Camp Tamarack. The camp's student body includes youths from Japan, South Africa, Belgium, France and England to be taught by professional magicians. The camp became part of the Ontario Camping Association (OCA) in 2004. The World's Greatest Magic
''The World's Greatest Magic'' was a series of American television specials showcasing magic acts. The first of five shows was broadcast by NBC in 1994, and continued with annual editions through 1998. These shows were most often first telecast during the Thanksgiving holidays when special programming would occur. These specials reran occasionally on ABC Family (then The Family Channel and Fox Family) from October 1996 to early 2002. The first episode was hosted by Robert Urich, the second by Alan Thicke, and the final three episodes by John Ritter. All of the specials were narrated by Don LaFontaine.
