Rico Lebrun
Rico (Federico) Lebrun (Naples, December 10, 1900 – Malibu, May 9, 1964) was an Italian-American painter and sculptor. Early life Lebrun was born in 1900 in Naples, Italy. He initially studied banking and journalism before taking art classes at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts from 1919 to 1921. Following this he went to Florence, where he studied as a muralist. He received practical training at a stained-glass factory. Artistic career After emigrating to the United States in 1924, he worked as a commercial artist in Pittsburgh and New York for several years. In the early 1930s he returned to Italy where he studied the frescoes of Luca Signorelli. He moved to California in 1936. He exhibited in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun (11 August 1729 – 31 August 1807) was a French lyric poet. Biography Lebrun was born in Paris at the house of the prince de Conti, to whom his father was valet. Among Lebrun's school friends was a son of Louis Racine, whose disciple he became. In 1755 he published an ''Ode sur les désastres de Lisbonne''. In 1759 he married Marie Anne de Surcourt, addressed in his ''Élégies'' as Fanny. In the early years of his marriage he produced his poem, ''Nature''. His wife suffered much from his violent temper, and when in 1774 she brought an action against him to obtain a separation, she was supported by Lebrun's own mother and sister. Lebrun had been ''secrétaire des commandements'' to the prince de Conti, and on his patron's death he lost this position. He also lost financially as a result of the bankruptcy of the prince de Guemene. Pierre-Antoine Lebrun (; 29 November 1785 – 27 May 1873) was a French poet. Biography Lebrun was born in Paris. An ''Ode à la grande armée'', mistaken at the time for the work of Écouchard Lebrun, attracted Napoleon's attention, and secured for the author a pension of 1200 francs. Lebrun's plays, once famous, are now forgotten. They are: ''Ulysse'' (1814), ''Marie Stuart'' (1820), which obtained a great success, and ''Le Cid d'Andalousie'' (1825). Lebrun visited Greece in 1820, and on his return to Paris he published in 1822 an ode on the death of Napoleon, which cost him his pension. In 1825 he was the guest of Sir Walter Scott at Abbotsford. The coronation of Charles X in that year inspired the verses entitled ''La Vallée de Champrosay'', which have, perhaps, done more to secure his fame than his more ambitious attempts. Napoleon Eugene Charles Henry LeBrun (January 2, 1821 – July 9, 1901) was an American architect. He began his career in Philadelphia designing churches and theatres including St. Augustine's Church, the Cathedral-Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul and the Philadelphia Academy of Music. He moved to New York City, established the firm Napoleon LeBrun & Sons and designed multiple additional churches. He became the official architect of the Fire Department of New York and designed 42 firehouses between 1879 and 1895. He also designed early skyscrapers in New York City such as the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower and the Home Life Building. Maurice le Brun, 1st Baron Brun (bef. 1279 – 17 March 1354/1355) was an English peer, born in Essex. Sir Maurice le Brun was the son of William le Brun of Ranston, Dorset, of Rowner, Hampshire, and of Fordingbridge, Hampshire, who died circa 4 March 1300/1301, and wife Isolde, family unknown, who died circa 6 September 1307. He married before 14 October 1300 Maud de la Rokele, whom he survived, born in Ireland on 9 October 1286 the daughter of Philip de la Rokele of Beckenham, Kent, and of South Ockendon, Essex, and wife Joan, family unknown. On 26 June 1301 she and her husband had livery of her father's lands. He was summoned to Parliament as Baron Brun, and thus by modern usage is held to have become a member of the Peerage of England, by writ of 8 January 1313, although his descendants were not summoned to Parliament by this writ. Ludwig August Lebrun (baptized 2 May 1752 – 16 December 1790) was a German oboist and composer. Life Lebrun was born in Mannheim. The well-known and celebrated oboe virtuoso (a contemporary described being "charmed by his divine oboe") played with the orchestra at the court of the Prince-Elector Carl Theodor in Mannheim. He started playing with the orchestra at the age of 12 and became a full member at the age of 15. His father, also an oboist of probably Belgian origin, worked from 1747 at the Mannheim court. He was a contemporary of Carl Stamitz and Anton Stamitz, and belonged to the Mannheim school. In the summer of 1778 he married the soprano Franziska Danzi, one of the most outstanding and well-known singers of the time and the sister of composer Franz Danzi. With her, he travelled extensively across Europe: Milan, Paris, London, Vienna, Prague, Naples, Munich and Berlin. Jeanne-Julie-Louise Le Brun (née Julie Nigris; 12 February 1780 – 8 December 1819), nicknamed “Brunette”, was the daughter of Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, and was the model of many of her paintings. Life Julie Le Brun was born on 12 February 1780 in Paris, France, to Jean-Baptiste-Pierre Le Brun and Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun. When her parents separated in 1789, Julie traveled with her mother. Early in life she produced a number of pastels, including one after a piece by Jakob Orth; in her memoirs the elder painter refers to "ses heureuses dispositions pour la peinture". Relations with her mother were strained from time to time, especially after her marriage to Gaëtan-Bernard Nigris in 1799. The couple soon separated. Jean-Baptiste-Pierre Le Brun (1748 – 7 August 1813) was a French painter, art collector and art dealer. Simon Denis was his pupil. Life Born in Paris, he was the son of the painter Pierre Le Brun, who was himself a great-nephew of another painter, Charles Le Brun. From 1775 onwards he became one of the main art dealers and painting experts in Paris, specialising in restoring old masters, particularly Dutch ones, and publishing catalogues of them for commercial purposes.
