The Lebanese University (LU) (, ) is the only public university in Beirut, Lebanon. It is ranked #701–750 worldwide in terms of education. The creation of the Lebanese University was an idea first mentioned in the speech of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Hamid Frangieh, during the closing ceremony of the Third UNESCO Conference in Beirut held on 11 December 1948, during which he said: "Lebanon hopes to see the creation of a Lebanese university having the spirit of UNESCO." Antoine Ghanem
Antoine Ghanem ( ar, أنطوان غانم; 10 August 1943 – 19 September 2007) was a Lebanese politician and an MP in the Lebanese Parliament. He was also a member of the Kataeb party and the March 14 Coalition. He was killed on 19 September 2007 in a car bomb explosion in the Sin el Fil suburb of Beirut. He was the eighth anti-Syrian figure assassinated since the assassination of Rafik Hariri on 14 February 2005. Early life and education Ghanem was born in the Tohwita suburb of Beirut on 10 August 1943. He attended the Collège Notre Dame in Furn el Chebek and the Collège du Sacré-Cœur in Gemmayzeh, both private Catholic schools. After earning a degree in law from the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut and the University of Lyon, he taught law for several years at the Lebanese University. Vartine Ohanian
Vartine Ohanian ( ar, فارتينيه أوهانيان, hy, Վարդինե Օհանյան; born 1 January 1984 in Burj Hammoud, Matn District) is a Lebanese politician of Armenian descent who served as the Lebanese Minister of Youth and Sports from 2020 to 2021. Education and early life Vartine received her secondary education at the Yeghishe Manoogian and the Levon and Sophia Hagopian college, both Armenian schools. Doumouh Al Bakkar
Doumouh Ibrahim Al Bakkar ( ar, دموع ابراهيم البقار; born 7 April 1990) is a Lebanese football referee who officiates primarily in the Lebanese Women's Football League. Starting out as a player and coach, Al Bakkar became a referee in 2014. In addition to women's matches, she has also officiated men's matches domestically, at both senior and youth level. Al Bakkar has refereed in various women's international competitions, such as the AFC Olympic Qualifying Tournament, AFC Asian Cup qualification, Arab Cup, Southeast Asian Games and WAFF Championship. Marcel Ghanem
Marcel Ghanem ( ar, مارسيل غانم) (born 1964) is a Lebanese journalist. He hosted the widely popular Lebanese political talk show "Kalam El-Nas" ( ar, كلام الناس) and now he is hosting another Lebanese political talk show "Sar el Waqt" ( ar, صار الوقت). Early years Ghanem was born in Yahchouch, Lebanon in 1964. He graduated from Lebanese University with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1987. He then practiced as an attorney between 1987 and 1994. Rana Hamadeh
Rana Hamadeh (born 1983) is an artist from Lebanon based in the Netherlands. Her interdisciplinary projects span theatrical performances, sound, text and cartographic works, among others, allowing for a discursive approach to subject matter. Artwork Many of her works question the authority of historical voice, creating visibility around erased or unrecorded voices. As part of her artistic practice she has embraced the role of scientist, historian or archivist as a means of replicating the authority that those systems relay. Adnan Hussein
Adnan Hussein (born 27 February 1954) is a Lebanese political scientist, academic and politician who served as minister of state for social affairs in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Saad Hariri. He is a close ally of former Lebanese President Michel Suleiman. Early life and education Hussein was born in Zkak Al Blat on 27 February 1954.
