Lea Hernandez
Lea Hernandez (born March 11, 1964) is an American comic book and webcomic creator, known primarily for working in a manga-influenced style, and for doing lettering and touch-ups on manga imports. She is the co-creator of '' Killer Princesses'', written by Gail Simone and published by Oni Press; and the creator of '' Rumble Girls'' from NBM Publishing. Career She did art for comics published by Marvel Comics and DC Comics: '' Marvel Mangaverse: Punisher'' (a one-shot), and ''Transmetropolitan '' (two two-page shorts). She also did art for three issues of The Hardy Boys manga-style series at Papercutz. Hernandez published several webcomics at Modern Tales and was the original editor of Girlamatic. In 2002, Hernandez created the short webcomic ''Near Life Experience'' for Modern Tales. Hernandez has written several short stories for collections of science fiction and fantasy. Modern Tales
Modern Tales was a webcomics subscription service active from 2002 to 2012. Joey Manley was the website's publisher and original editor. The site featured a roster of approximately 30 professional webcomic artists. Shaenon Garrity, one of the site's original artists, took over as the publication's editor in 2006. Other Modern Tales artists included Gene Luen Yang, James Kochalka, Dorothy Gambrell, Harvey Pekar and Will Eisner. In the first four years of Modern Tales' run, its most recent webcomic pages and strips were free, and the site's archives were available by subscription. The website's archives eventually became free to read as well, as online advertisement rates improved. Modern Tales did solid business and Manley spun off a number of similar subscription services, including Serializer.net, Girlamatic, and Kochalka's ''American Elf'', which together became known as the "Modern Tales family". The Wayback Machine is a digital archive of the World Wide Web founded by the Internet Archive, a nonprofit based in San Francisco, California. Created in 1996 and launched to the public in 2001, it allows the user to go "back in time" and see how websites looked in the past. Friends of Lulu was a non-profit, national charitable organization in the United States, which operated from 1994–2011 to promote readership of comic books by women and the participation of women in the comic book industry. Membership was open to all persons. Friends of Lulu additionally sponsored the Lulu Awards and administered the Women Cartoonists Hall of Fame.
