Le Dindon
''Le Dindon'' (The Turkey) is a three-act farce by Georges Feydeau, first produced in Paris in 1896. It depicts the unsuccessful attempts of the central character – the ''"wikt:dindon de la farce, dindon"'' (roughly "the fall guy") to seduce a married woman, and the chaotic events caused by his fruitless machinations. Background and premiere By the mid-1890s Georges Feydeau had established himself as the leading writer of French farce of his generation. At a time when a run of 100 performances was regarded in Parisian theatres as a success, Feydeau had enjoyed runs of 434 for ''Champignol malgré lui'' (1892) and 371 for ''L'Hôtel du libre échange'' (1894). Both those plays had been written in collaboration with Maurice Desvallières. ''Le Dindon'' was a solo effort. The play opened at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal on 8 February 1896, and ran for 238 performances. The title of the play has no exact English equivalent in the context in which Feydeau uses it. New York Daily News
The New York ''Daily News'', officially titled the ''Daily News'', is an American newspaper based in Jersey City, NJ. It was founded in 1919 by Joseph Medill Patterson as the ''Illustrated Daily News''. It was the first U.S. daily printed in tabloid format. It reached its peak circulation in 1947, at 2.4 million copies a day. As of 2019 it was the eleventh-highest circulated newspaper in the United States. Jalil Lespert (born 11 May 1976) is a French actor, screenwriter and director. Life and career Born to an ethnic French (Pied-Noir) father, actor Jean Lespert, and an Algerian mother, who is an attorney and a jurist, Lespert first studied law, to please his mother. But he was more interested in acting. He married Sonia Rolland, a former Miss France, with whom he has one child named Kahina. Claude Barma (3 November 1918, in Nice – 30 August 1992, in Paris), was a French director and screenwriter, and an early creator of French television programmes. Biography After studying electrical engineering, he entered television in 1946 with the drama ''Chambre 34'', his directorial debut. On 24 February 1950, he produced the first live French television show by transmitting part of Marivaux's ''Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard'' and the ''Comédie-Française''. His first series followed in 1950, ''Agence Nostradamus'', which was also the first series on French television. In 1955, he staged a trial court scripted by Peter Desgraupes and Dumayet Peter (producers of the series). The Turkey (film)
''The Turkey'' (French: ''Le Dindon'') is a 1951 French period comedy film directed by Claude Barma and starring Nadine Alari, Jacqueline Pierreux and Denise Provence. It is an adaptation of Georges Feydeau's 1896 play '' Le Dindon'' (''The Turkey'' or ''Sauce for the Goose''). It was shot at the Epinay Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Henri Schmitt. Synopsis In Paris during the Belle Epoque, Monsieur Pontagnac loves his wife but also has a wandering eye that gets him into trouble. This happens particularly when he becomes entangled with Lucienne Vatelin, the wife of a lawyer. Pearl Theatre (New York City)
The Pearl Theatre Company, commonly referred to as the Pearl Theatre, was a theatre in New York City. It was established in Chelsea by Shepard Sobel in 1984, with David Hyde Pierce part of the company's first season. The company focused on producing classic works performed by their resident acting company. After moving to St Mark's Place and then to City Center, the company moved in 2012 into their first permanent home, a 160-seat theatre at 555 West 42nd Street between Tenth and Eleventh Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. ''The Stage'' is a British weekly newspaper and website covering the entertainment industry and particularly theatre. It was founded in 1880. It contains news, reviews, opinion, features, and recruitment advertising, mainly directed at those who work in theatre and the performing arts. Alain Feydeau
Georges Alain Thierry Feydeau (21 July 1934 – 14 January 2008) was a French actor, director and writer. He was a grandson of the playwright Georges Feydeau, and appeared in several of his grandfather's works, and directed new productions of two of them. Life and career Feydeau was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, on 21 July 1934, son of Michel Feydeau (1900–1961) and his wife Françoise, ''née'' Hoentschel. At the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris he won the first prize for comedy in 1958, after which he joined the company of the Comédie-Française, of which he remained a member until 1983. During his time with the company Feydeau was appointed to the rank of ''Grand Pensionnaire'', but was never made a full '' Sociétaire''. Jean-Paul Roussillon
Jean-Paul Roussillon (5 March 1931 – 31 July 2009) was a French actor. He appeared in more than 80 films and television shows between 1954 and 2008. He starred in the film ''Playing 'In the Company of Men''', which was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. He won the César Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ''A Christmas Tale''. For years Roussillon had been battling lung cancer and died on 31 July 2009 in Auxerre, France. Jean Piat
Jean Piat (23 September 1924 – 18 September 2018) was a French actor and writer. Life Piat was born in Lannoy, Nord. He enlisted in the Comédie-Française on 1 September 1947, and became a member on 1 January 1953. He left the Comédie-Française on 31 December 1972, and became an honorary member the following day. He was an officer in the Légion d'honneur and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and a grand officer in the Ordre national du Mérite. He was married to actress Françoise Engel (who died in 2005), and was a professor in the dramatic arts of the Simon Course. Jacques Charon
Jacques Charon (27 February 1920 – 15 October 1975) was a French actor and film director. Born in Paris, Charon trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD) and made his début at the Comédie-Française in 1941. During his time there which lasted until his death, he played over 150 roles in the classical and modern repertoire. Charon directed the 1968 feature film ''A Flea in Her Ear'' and the 1973 television movie ''Monsieur Pompadour''. He played Spalanzani in the complete recording of ''The Tales of Hoffmann'' (Decca, 1971). Charon died in Paris and is buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre.
