Lawaan, officially the Municipality of Lawaan ( war, Bungto han Lawaan; tl, Bayan ng Lawaan), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 13,003 people. It is home to Bolusao Watershed Forest Reserve, primarily located in Barangay Bolusao. Lawaan is the historical hometown of the legendary sundang-wielding fighters in women's clothing during the 1901 Battle of Balangiga. Being a town adjacent to the Samar Island Natural Park - the country's largest terrestrial protected area - the land is blessed with vast natural landscapes and wild life sanctuaries. Bolusao Watershed Forest Reserve
Bolusao Watershed Forest Reserve is a reserve in Barangay Bolusao, Lawaan, Eastern Samar, Philippines. Geography The Bolusao Watershed Forest Reserve is situated in the southern part of the island of Samar and lies within the coordinates 11°22'N and 125°20'E. Having an area of 4,055 hectares, it was declared as a watershed forest reserve via Proclamation Number 106 on 10 December 1992, for inclusion in the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) by virtue of R.A. 7586 (DENR, 2003). Balangiga (IPA: Œbalaŋˈhɪga, officially the Municipality of Balangiga ( war, Bungto han Balangiga; tl, Bayan ng Balangiga), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. Samar Island Natural Park
The Samar Island Natural Park, in Samar, is the largest contiguous tract of old-growth forest in the Philippines. It is the country's largest terrestrial protected area, with an area of .
