The Vallemaggia District is a district of the cantons of Switzerland, canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It has a population of (as of ). The capital of the district is Cevio. Geography The Vallemaggia District has an area, , of . Of this area, or 1.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 42.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 1.2% is settled (buildings or roads), or 2.7% is either rivers or lakes and or 42.9% is unproductive land. Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 0.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 0.4%. Prato-Sornico is a former municipality in the district of Vallemaggia in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. The municipality contained the villages Prato and Sornico. These entities were former municipalities of their own, having been merged to form Prato-Sornico in 1864. Mogno
Mogno is a village in Vallemaggia District in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Mogno is situated near the top of Val Lavizzara, a valley through which the upper Maggia river flows. Formerly part of the municipality of Fusio, which merged with adjoining municipalities in 2004 to form the new municipality of Lavizzara. In the 17th century it possessed 50 taxable fireplaces. By 1801, the population had dropped to just 40 inhabitants. Today it is no longer inhabited all year round and serves only as a holiday village. Before Mogno was incorporated in 1936 into Fusio, it was part of Peccia, and the land around the settlement was shared between Fusio, Peccia, Prato and Sornica. Mogno is most noted for its modern marble-and-granite Church of San Giovanni Battista, designed by Ticinese architect Mario Botta. Sonogno
Sonogno is a former municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is located in Valle Verzasca. On 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Vogorno, Sonogno, Corippo, Brione (Verzasca) and Frasco merged to form the new municipality of Verzasca. History Sonogno is first mentioned in 1200 as ''Sornono''. In 1417 it was mentioned as ''Senognio''. Quinto, Switzerland
Quinto is a municipality in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History A grave from the early Iron Age has been found in the valley. The modern municipality of Quinto is first mentioned in 1227. The old '' Vicinanza'', whose statutes were first written in 1408, consisted of numerous '' degagne''. They owned alpine pastures, particularly on the Alp Piora, and the rights to provide donkeys or mules for freight transport over the passes. Quinto originally belonged to the parish of Biasca, but had already separated into an independent parish before the 12th Century. Prato Leventina
Prato (Leventina) is a municipality in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Prato (Leventina) is first mentioned in 1211 as ''de Prato''. In German it used to be known as ''Pratt'', though this name is no longer used. Between 1902 and 1939 it was known as ''Prato-Fiesso''. The village may have grown up around a ''Sust'' (an alpine warehouse and administrative center) along the Gotthard road. The village was the center of a '' Vicinanza'' which consisted of the '' Degagne'' of Prato, Fiesso and until 1866, Dalpe.
