Lauttasaari metro station (, ) is an underground station on the Helsinki Metro. Lauttasaari is a part of the Länsimetro extension. It serves the neighborhood of Lauttasaari in Helsinki. An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. Länsimetro
Länsimetro (English: Western Metro, Swedish: Västmetron) is an extension to the Helsinki Metro system in Finland. The grand opening for the long-awaited extension was held on 18 November 2017. Länsimetro extends the system's two lines, M1 and M2, from Central Helsinki to the neighbouring city of Espoo. The new stretch continues the lines from the existing Ruoholahti station via the island of Lauttasaari, the Aalto University Otaniemi campus and Tapiola, the terminus of line M2. Line M1 continues further west to Matinkylä. Unlike previous extensions to the Helsinki Metro system, Länsimetro runs entirely underground. Lauttasaari (; sv, Drumsö) is an island in Helsinki, Finland, about west of the city centre. Together with some surrounding unpopulated small islands, Lauttasaari is also a district of Helsinki. With 23,226 residents as of 2017, the island is Finland's second largest by population, after Fasta Åland. Its land area is 3.85 km. Lauttasaari is primarily a residential area but also contains services, including several marinas and canoe clubs. Although close to the city centre, Lauttasaari has not been entirely built up. Lauttis is a so-called hybrid building, where the same building houses a parking lot, a shopping centre and apartments. Lauttis has about 6000 m of business space and about 10000 m of apartments. Koivusaari Metro Station
Koivusaari metro station (, ) is a station located underwater on the Länsimetro extension of the Helsinki Metro. Although the metro station is named after Koivusaari, the westernmost island in Helsinki, it is actually located on the extreme western edge of the Lauttasaari island. It is located 2.3 kilometres east from Keilaniemi metro station and 1.6 kilometres west from Lauttasaari metro station. The eastern entrance to Koivusaari metro station is located on Sotkatie in Lauttasaari.
