Laurierville, Quebec
Laurierville is a municipality in the Centre-du-Québec region of the province of Quebec in Canada. It was constituted on November 26, 1997 by the amalgamation of the village municipality of Laurierville and the municipality of Sainte-Julie (the latter not to be confused with a different, modern-day Sainte-Julie in Montérégie). Marie-Rose Turcot
Marie-Rose Turcot (July 2, 1887 – November 27, 1977) was a Canadian writer. Turcot was born in Laurierville, Quebec, to Belzémire Rousseau and Georges Turcot, a member of the Canadian House of Commons. She was educated at a convent in Plessisville and at the University of Ottawa, where she studied literature and philosophy. At the age of 20, she moved to Ottawa to join the federal public service. She worked as a journalist for ''Le Droit'' from 1934 to 1950; her work also appeared in various daily and weekly publications in Ottawa and Montreal. She sometimes used the pseudonym Constance Bayard. She was also a journalist for the Hull radio station CKCH. Besides her own writing, she also collected and published Franco-Ontarian folklore. Turcot was a member of various French-Canadian cultural organizations in Ottawa, including Le Caveau. Turcot died in Orleans at the age of 90. Fernand Labrie
Fernand Labrie, (June 28, 1937 – January 16, 2019) was a Canadian medical researcher who specializes in endocrinological research and prostate cancer research. Life and career Born in Laurierville, Quebec, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957 from the Séminaire de Québec. He received his Doctor of Medicine in 1962 and a Ph.D. in 1966 from Université Laval. From 1966 to 1969, he took his postdoctoral studies at the University of Cambridge and the University of Sussex. In 1966, he joined the faculty of Université Laval as an assistant professor. In 1969 he was made an associate professor, and in 1974 he was made a full professor. In 1990, he was made the head of the Department of Physiology. In 1969, he was made the Director of the Molecular Endocrinology Research Centre. Labrie died at the age of 81 in January 2019.
