Lauri Soininen
Lauri Soininen (1 April 1875 - 2 September 1919) was a Finnish journalist and poet. He was the son of Eerik Soininen and Brita Kaisa Similä. He made his debut in 1895 with the book ''Runopisareita''. Soininen wrote several detective novels under the name Lauri Sauramo. He also wrote under the names Lauri Soini, L. Sininen, and Juho Ahava. Metsatöll (from – 'forest' and ''töll'' – 'four-legged being', used in Western Estonia as an euphemism for "wolf" or "werewolf") is an Estonian heavy metal band formed in 1999. The band has been influenced by many musical groups along with folk units Garmarna, Stille Volk and Estonian folk/classical music composer Veljo Tormis. Much of their material, featuring flutes and other traditional Estonian instruments, is based on the wars for independence of the 13th and 14th centuries. Lauri Jõeleht (born 14 December 1974 in Tallinn) is an Estonian composer. In 2003, he finished his master's thesis in composition specialty at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since 1996, he is working as a guitar teacher. Since 2014, he is also teaching at Institute of Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Lauri Törni
Lauri Allan Törni (28 May 1919 – 18 October 1965), later known as Larry Alan Thorne, was a Finnish-born soldier who fought under three flags: as a Finnish Army officer in the Winter War and the Continuation War ultimately gaining a rank of captain; as a Waffen-SS captain (under the alias Larry Laine) of the Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS when he fought the Red Army on the Eastern Front in World War II; and as a United States Army Major (under the alias "Larry Thorne") when he served in the U.S. Army Special Forces in the Vietnam War. Törni died in a helicopter crash during the Vietnam War and he was promoted to the rank of major posthumously. His remains were located three decades later and then buried in Arlington National Cemetery; he is the only former member of the Waffen-SS known to be interred there. Lauri Tiainen
Lauri Taavetti Tiainen (15 February 1891, Rantasalmi – 18 September 1958) was a Finnish colonel during World War II. Kilin and Raunio 2007, p. 71 Tiainen joined the Jaeger Movement in 1915 and trained and fought in the Royal Prussian 27th Jäger Battalion. He worked under the name "''Pfadfinder''". After the Finnish Civil War, Tiainen worked as a commander of battalion, an army school lecturer, a commander of regiment, the commander of Savo Brigade. In 1933, he was promoted as the Commander of Karelian Military Administrative Division. Tiainen was the Commander of the 12th Division in the Battle of Kollaa during the Winter War. General Lauri Johannes Sutela (11 October 1918, Äänekoski – 8 November 2011; surname until 1929 ''Schroderus'') was a Finnish military officer. Lauri Pekuri
Lauri Olavi Pekuri (né Ohukainen; 6 November 1916, in Helsinki, Finland - 3 August 1999, in Spain) was a Finnish Air Force ace and jet aircraft pioneer. In 1942, Pekuri changed his name from Ohukainen. This older name can still be found in aviation literature. Early history Pekuri began flying as a youth in the 1930s Helsinki. He left college to participate in the White Guards and to practice sports. On his first attempt to join the Air Force, he failed in the psychological tests and due to his insufficient academic record. Instead, he became an NCO at the Mikkeli artillery battery. In 1939, he tried out again for the Air Force and was admitted. He had then completed his interrupted college studies. Fighter pilot Pekuri was sent to Parola and Tyrväntö during the Winter War where he got to fly second-line Gloster Gamecocks, Bristol Bulldogs and ASJA Jaktfalk fighters.
