Lauren Horton
Lauren Horton (born July 21, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Pakenham, Ontario. Youth career Horton's Huntley Curling Club rink won the 2011 provincial bantam championship. This qualified her team to represent Ontario at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, where she would take home the bronze medal. She won the provincial junior mixed championship in 2014, throwing third stones for Ryan McCrady. While attending Carleton University, Horton won the 2014 CIS/CCA Curling Championships playing third for the Carleton Ravens team, skipped by Jamie Sinclair. The team represented Canada at the 2015 Winter Universiade, with Sinclair replaced by Breanne Meakin from the University of Manitoba (Sinclair had committed to curling for the United States at this point). Almonte District High School
Almonte and District High School (ADHS) is a public high school in the Upper Canada District School Board. It is located in Almonte, Ontario, which since 1998 has been a ward of the town of Mississippi Mills. Its catchment area includes Almonte itself and most of rural Mississippi Mills. Skip (curling)
In the sport of curling, the skip is the captain of a team. The skip determines strategy, and holds the broom in the ''house'' (target area) to indicate where a teammate at the other end of the curling ''sheet'' (playing area) should aim the stone. The skip usually throws the last two stones in the fourth position, but may play in any other position. Sometimes "skipper" is used; it can also be abbreviated as "S". It's also used as a verb ("skips", "skipped", "skipping"). It is conventional to identify a team by the name of the skip. Responsibilities Overall, the skip leads the team and provides strategic direction. The skip calls shots teammates to play, through verbal direction and physical gestures. 2019 Ontario Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2019 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship for Southern Ontario, was held January 28 to February 2 at the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira, Ontario. The winning team of skip Rachel Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Joanne Courtney and lead Lisa Weagle represented Ontario at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sydney, Nova Scotia, finishing second. Homan defeated Julie Tippin in the final with a final score of 7-5. The event was held in conjunction with the 2019 Ontario Tankard, the men's provincial championship. This was the sixth time the team played at the Scotties and the fourth time representing Ontario. Unlike the 2018 event, the 2019 Scotties returned to having a round robin format. World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending " V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. Susan Froud
Susan Froud (born March 31, 1970 in Newmarket, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Loretto, Ontario. Career Froud won a provincial university championship with the University of Waterloo in 1996. Froud played in the inaugural Canada Cup of Curling in 2003, playing second for the Marilyn Bodogh rink. Bodogh did not play in the event, so the team was skipped by Penny Shantz. The team finished the event with a 1–3 record, missing the playoffs. Froud played in the Canada Cup again in 2005, playing second for Anne Merklinger the team finished first in their pool with a 4–1 record, but lost both of their playoff games, settling for third place. During her World Curling Tour career, Froud played for several skips, including Merklinger, Janet McGhee, Jacqueline Harrison and Susan McKnight. She is a four-time Manitoba Junior Champion and a one-time Canadian junior champion (2009). She has won a silver medal at the World Junior Curling Championships.
