Laura Ford
Laura Ford (born 6 February 1961) in Cardiff, Wales is a British sculptor. Early life Growing up in a travelling fairground family, Ford was educated at Stonar School in Wiltshire, and then at Bath Academy of Art from 1978 to 1982, while spending a term at the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City. In 1982 she was invited to take part in the annual New Contemporaries exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and then studied at the Chelsea School of Art from 1982 to 1983. Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. Contemporary Art Society
The Contemporary Art Society (CAS) is an independent charity that champions the collecting of outstanding contemporary art and craft for UK museum collections. Since its founding in 1910 the organisation has donated over 10,000 works to museums across the UK. From the 1930s the Society also donated works to Commonwealth museums, but since 1989 the focus has remained exclusively on UK institutions. Each year, the CAS donates works of modern and contemporary art to more than 70 museums and public galleries in the UK, which subscribe as Museum Members. Andrew Sabin
Andrew Sabin (born 1958, London, England) is a British sculptor. He studied at Chelsea College of Art (1979–1983) where he worked as a senior lecturer until 2006. Life and work A pioneering experimental object maker until 1989, his debut exhibition was with his partner, Laura Ford, in an artist-occupied shop in Islington, later exhibiting at Whitechapel Gallery and Casting an Eye, Cornerhouse Gallery Manchester (1987) alongside Julian Opie, Richard Deacon and Alison Wilding. Exhibiting twice (1989 and 1990) with solo shows at Salama-Caro Gallery, Cork Street. Sabin produced his first major installation for the Chisenhale Gallery in East London (1990). The works were constructed from hard masses of expanded polyeurathane, fibreglass and steel covered with camouflage nylon and studded with lustre-glazed ceramic buttons. Sculpture In Pilane
Pilane in Klövdal, Tjörn, Bohuslän, Sweden, is an Iron Age settlement site and grave field, dated to 1-600 AD. The grave field consists of approximately 90 ancient monuments, including stone circles, burial mounds, circular stone grave markers and standing stones. The site is under the care of the Swedish National Heritage Board and the land is leased as sheep pasture. In the summer of 2007 the Pilane site started to be used for a seasonal outdoor sculpture exhibition: ''Skulptur i Pilane'' (''Sculpture in Pilane''). During its first year the exhibition had 60,000 visitors. The art activities are coordinated by the private, non-profit Pilane Heritage Museum, which is financed by the entry fees. Mike Nelson (artist)
Michael Nelson (born 20 August 1967) is a contemporary British installation artist. He represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2011. Nelson has twice been nominated for the Turner Prize: first in 2001 (that year the prize was won by Martin Creed), and again in 2007 (when the winner was Mark Wallinger). Education Nelson studied at University of Reading from 1986–1990 for a BA Fine Art. From 1992 to 1993 he studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design for an MA Sculpture. Roger Hiorns
Roger Hiorns (born 1975) is a British Contemporary artist based in London. His primary media is sculpture and installation, using a wide variety of materials, including metals, wood and plastics. He also works in the media of video and photography. Education Hiorns was born in Birmingham. He attended the Bournville College of Art from 1991 to 1993, and Goldsmiths, University of London in London from 1993 to 1996. He lives in London. Magdalena Abakanowicz
Marta Magdalena Abakanowicz-Kosmowska (20 June 1930 – 20 April 2017) was a Polish sculptor and fiber artist. She was known for her use of textiles as a sculptural medium and her outdoor installations. She is widely regarded as one of Poland's most internationally acclaimed artists. She was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, Poland, from 1965 to 1990 and a visiting professor at University of California, Los Angeles in 1984. Jacqui Poncelet
Jacqui Poncelet (born 1947), also known as Jacqueline Poncelet, is a Belgian artist. Poncelet began her art career as a ceramist in the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1980s her practice expanded to include painting, sculpture and public art. Early life and education Jacqui Poncelet was born in Liège, Belgium in 1947. From 1964 to 1969 she studied ceramics at Wolverhampton College of Art. From 1969 to 1972 she studied industrial ceramics at the Royal College of Art.
