Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. This makes them shorter than most other television series, but still much longer than a miniseries. María de la Cruz Olivier Obergh (September 19, 1933 – October 10, 1984), known professionally as Maricruz Olivier, was a Mexican actress of film, television, and theater. She is best remembered for starring in the 1959 version of the telenovela ''Teresa'', which was a success as it established her on-screen persona of playing villains. Early life Olivier was born María de la Cruz Olivier Obergh to Mercedes Shirley Obergh in the city of Tehuacán, Puebla. Olivier studied philosophy, literature, and acting for two years in the Academia Andrés Soler. Her film debut was in ''Esos de Penjamo'' in 1951, and her theatrical debut was in the play, ''Que no es cordero''. María Conesa, also known as ''La Gatita Blanca'' (The White Kitten) (December 12, 1892 – September 9, 1978), was a Spanish-born Mexican stage, television, film actress and '' vedette''. She was one of the principal stars of the Revue and Vaudeville in México and Latin America in the early 20th century. Biography She began her career in Spain in the stage company named ''Aurora Infantil'' with her sister Teresita. Both highlighted in many plays. Carmen Montejo (born María Teresa Sánchez González; May 26, 1925 – February 25, 2013) was a Cuban actress. Biography Real name: María Teresa Sánchez González. Montejo started her career in radio as a child at the age of 6 in Cuba in a show titled ''Abuelita Cata'' transmitted on CMOX. While still in Cuba, she was nicknamed "Muñeca" Sánchez in theatre and because of her golden curls as the Cuban Shirley Temple. She began acting studies in 1939 at Universidad de La Habana under Ludwing Shayovich. After concluding her college studies, her parents offered her a trip to the United States, but instead she chose to go to Mexico for two months. Ofelia Guilmáin (November 17, 1921 – January 14, 2005) was a Spaniard-Mexican actress of telenovelas, stage and the cinema of Mexico. She is also the mother of actors Juan Ferrara and Lucía Guilmáin. Two of her grandchildren, sons of Ferrara, Mauricio and Juan Carlos Bonet, are also actors. Biography Ofelia Guilmáin was born in Madrid, Spain. She was part of the Guerrillas of Theater groups in Spain set up by the republican government. When Francisco Franco came to power, she left her country as did many other artists and intellectuals.
