Larry LaCoursiere
Larry LaCoursiere, alias "Lightning," is a retired professional welterweight boxer from Hastings, Minnesota. Boxing career LaCoursiere made his professional debut with a knockout win against Remuse Caffee at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in Saint Paul, Minnesota on October 24, 1990. After 16 consecutive wins, LaCoursiere took a major step up, facing 12-0 Richie Albrecht in Minneapolis, Minnesota in November 1992. The result of the fight with Albrecht was a split draw. LaCoursiere subsequently faced some of the best boxers in the world, losing to Kostya Tszyu, Tony Lopez, Todd Foster, Gary Murray, Julio César Chávez, and Hector Camacho Jr, and defeating former IBO World lightweight champion Mike Evgen. At the time of his retirement in 2001, LaCoursiere had compiled a professional record of 26-9-1. Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. Minnesota Boxing Hall Of Fame
The Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame is a commemorative organization with plans to create a museum. It celebrates the history of boxing in the state of Minnesota by honoring individuals whose achievements within the sport are noteworthy. History Though several individuals had previously considered creating a hall of fame for Minnesota boxing, it was noted boxing historian Jake Wegner who pulled together the local boxing community in 2009, filed for nonprofit status, and assembled a board of directors for the new hall. With Wegner as the president, the board consisted of Jeff Flanagan (Vice-President), Don Evans (Treasurer), Jim Wells (Secretary), Denny Nelson, Jim Carlin, and Wayne Bebeau. The inaugural class of inductees was announced on July 5, 2010 and the induction banquet took place on October 12, 2010. Mike Evgen, alias ''The Rice Street Rocker'', is a retired welterweight professional boxer from Minnesota. Personal life Mike Evgen, as his nickname implies, is from the Rice Street neighborhood in Saint Paul, Minnesota. At 5'6" tall, Evgen was unusually short for a welterweight fighter. Professional career Evgen made his professional debut in January 1989 with a first round knockout of Rick Caldwell. He won his first 16 professional fights, losing for the first time to Terry Ford in June 1991.
