Larabee (formerly, Larrabee and Laribee) is a locality in Humboldt County, California. It is located on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad east-northeast of Redcrest, at an elevation of . Larabee only has seasonal access across the Eel River; alternatively there is a former lumber road through Larabee Ranch, and on through Pacific Lumber Company property, that connects to Shively Road approximately five miles northwest. This road is only open during the winter when the temporary summer bridge is washed away by the rain-engorged Eel River. History Larabee, a historic settlement and community from the 1800s through today, is named after an early pioneer rancher of the area, Henry P. Larrabee (1830-1906). History The town is named for Charles H. Larrabee, who was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin at the time the town was formed. Larrabee is an unincorporated community located within the town of Gibson, in northern Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. Larrabee is the highest-populated community within Gibson, and as such historically served as a commercial and political hub of the town; the town hall of Gibson lies less than one-half mile (0.8 km) north of the community. The community is nearly equidistant from the two nearest municipalities, with Maribel approximately 3.2 miles (5.1 km) to the west-northwest and Mishicot 3.3 miles (5.3 km) to the southeast. Larrabee State Park is a public recreation area located on Samish Bay on the western side of Chuckanut Mountain, south of the city of Bellingham, Washington. It was created in 1915 as Washington's first state park. The park covers and features fishing, boating, and camping as well as mountain trails for hiking and biking. It is managed by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. History In 1913, the governor of Washington, Ernest Lister, proposed establishing a park along Chuckanut Drive. He mentioned this idea to Bellingham businessman Charles Larrabee, who agreed to deed waterfront property he owned in the area for the purpose. He died in 1914, but his wife Frances made sure the deal went through to completion. The governor officially accepted the park on October 23, 1915. Larrabee is the codename for a cancelled GPGPU chip that Intel was developing separately from its current line of integrated graphics accelerators. It is named after either Mount Larrabee or Larrabee State Park in Whatcom County, Washington, near the town of Bellingham. The chip was to be released in 2010 as the core of a consumer 3D graphics card, but these plans were cancelled due to delays and disappointing early performance figures. The project to produce a GPU retail product directly from the Larrabee research project was terminated in May 2010 and its technology was passed on to the Xeon Phi.
