Largo (Brad Mehldau Album)
''Largo'' is an album by American pianist and composer Brad Mehldau released on the Warner Bros. label in 2002. The album is a departure for Mehldau's earlier straight-ahead jazz albums, instead featuring a more experimental pop-influenced sound and extensive use of studio overdubs and session musicians. Reception ''The Guardian's'' John Fordham gave it a 4-star rating and observed "Mehldau is framed quite differently on ''Largo'' – a setting that includes chamber-classical woodwind and brass and a percussion sound deploying hip-hop and drum'n'bass grooves. He also plays electric keyboards at times, and the influence of producer Jon Brion – Mehldau's principal collaborator on the project, though the pianist wrote all the arrangements - was clearly critical". Brad Mehldau
Bradford Alexander Mehldau (; born August 23, 1970) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. Mehldau studied music at The New School, and toured and recorded while still a student. He was a member of saxophonist Joshua Redman's Quartet with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade in the mid-1990s, and has led his own trio since the early 1990s. His first long-term trio featured bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy; in 2005 Jeff Ballard replaced Rossy. These bands have released a dozen albums under the pianist's name. Since the early 2000s, Mehldau has experimented with other musical formats in addition to trio and solo piano. Wave (Antônio Carlos Jobim Song)
"Wave" (also known as "Vou Te Contar" in Portuguese; "I am going to tell you" in English) is a bossa nova and jazz standard song written by Antônio Carlos Jobim. Recorded as an instrumental on his 1967 album of the same name, its English lyrics were written by Jobim himself later that year. The English lyrics were used on the February 11, 1969, recording by Frank Sinatra, on his 1970 album '' Sinatra & Company''. They were also used by Johnny Mathis in his 1970 '' Close to You'' album and by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 (sung by Lani Hall with Mendes) on their second album, ''Equinox'', in 1967. The song was voted by the Brazilian edition of ''Rolling Stone'' to be the 73rd greatest Brazilian song. Jorge Rossy
Jorge "Jordi" Rossy (born August 21, 1964) is a jazz drummer, pianist and vibraphonist. Early life Rossy was born in Barcelona. He started playing drums at age 11. Later life and career Between 1980 and 1989, Rossy toured and recorded extensively with several musicians in the Spanish jazz scene, as well as with internationally acclaimed artists such as Woody Shaw, Kenny Wheeler, Jack Walrath, David Schnitter, Sal Nistico, Sean Levitt, and others. In 1989, he moved to Boston to study trumpet at Berklee College of Music. In Boston, Rossy became the drummer of choice for many of his peers, and joined the Danilo Perez Trio for gigs in Panama, France, Boston and New York. Larry Grenadier (born February 6, 1966 in San Francisco) is an American jazz double bassist. Early life Grenadier's father, Albert, was a trumpet player, and his two brothers, Phil and Steve, play trumpet and guitar, respectively. Grenadier began on trumpet when he was 10 years old before beginning to play the bass the following year. Grenadier's father helped introduce him to the instruments and music theory. Larry's older brother Phil began listening to jazz around this time, influencing his sibling's musical interests. Grenadier began listening to several jazz bassists including Ray Brown, Charles Mingus, Richard Davis, Paul Chambers, Wilbur Ware and Oscar Pettiford, among others. "Dear Prudence" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album ''The Beatles'' (also known as "the White Album"). The song was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. Written in Rishikesh during the group's trip to India in early 1968, it was inspired by actress Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence Farrow, who became obsessive about meditating while practising with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Her designated partners on the meditation course, Lennon and George Harrison, attempted to coax Farrow out of her seclusion, which led to Lennon writing the song. Phil Selway
Philip James Selway (born 23 May 1967) is an English musician and the drummer of the English rock band Radiohead. Along with the other members of Radiohead, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Jonathan Richard Guy Greenwood (born 5 November 1971) is an English musician and composer. He is the lead guitarist and keyboardist of the alternative rock band Radiohead, and has written numerous film scores.
