Lanyu Airport
The Lanyu Airport (; Tao: Seyseykedan No Sikoki No Irala ) is an airport on Orchid Island, Taitung County, Taiwan. The airport does not support night time flying except for emergency medical services flights. History The airport was initially controlled by the military, but is now under control of the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) since 1977. Expansion was made to the airport in which it was completed in 1982. Since 1990, the CAA has initiated a series of development projects for further expansion and improvement of the airport. Airlines and destinations Incidents and accidents * On 13 April 2017, Flight 55571, a DHC-6 of Daily Air, experienced a runway excursion and crashed into a guard rail. Orchid Island, also known by other names, is a volcanic island off the southeastern coast of Taiwan Island. The island is part of Taiwan. It is separated from the Batanes of the Philippines by the Bashi Channel of the Luzon Strait. It is governed as of Taitung County, Taiwan, which also includes the nearby . Names Orchid Island is known by the Tao people indigenous to the island as Pongso no Tao ("island of human beings"). Yami Language
Yami language (), also known as Tao language (), is a Malayo-Polynesian language spoken by the Tao people of Orchid Island, 46 kilometers southeast of Taiwan. It is a member of the Ivatan dialect continuum. Yami is known as 'human speech' by its native speakers. Native speakers prefer the 'Tao' name.
