Veronica Thörnroos
Veronica Thörnroos (born 16 July 1962) is a Finnish politician from Åland. She currently serves as the Premier of Åland, a position she has held since 25 November 2019. Prior to entering politics, Thörnroos worked as a nurse. Political career Thörnroos' political career began in 1989 when she was elected to the Brändö municipal council. She became a representative of the Provincial Assembly in 2003. In 2009, she also served as Minister of Transport and Minister for Nordic Cooperation until 2011. After that, she served as Minister of Infrastructure, who was responsible for e.g. provincial energy, media and IT affairs. On 25 November 2019, she was appointed as Premier of Åland, having led the Åland Centre in the 2019 Ålandic legislative election. Personal life Thörnroos is married to sea captain Jan-Tore Thörnroos. Politics Of Åland
Politics of the Åland Islands takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic autonomous, demilitarised and unilingually Swedish territory of Finland, whereby the Lantråd is the head of government, and of a multi-party system. The Åland Islands are governed according to the Act on Åland Autonomy and international treaties, which guarantees autonomy and demilitarized status. The Government of Åland, or ''Landskapsregering'', is dependent on the Parliament of Åland, or ''Lagting'', according to the principles of parliamentarism. In 1634, Åland was made part of the Åbo and Björneborg County as a part of the grand administrative reforms initiated by count Axel Oxenstierna. The county became part of the Russian Empire within the Grand Duchy of Finland in 1809, when Sweden was forced to cede vast areas in the Napoleonic Wars. Åland ( fi, Ahvenanmaa: ; ; ) is an Federacy, autonomous and Demilitarized zone, demilitarised region of Finland since 1920 by a decision of the League of Nations. Carl Björkman (politician)
Carl Björkman (15 February 1873 – 5 September 1948) was a politician in Åland, Finland. He was born in Turku and was the first premier of the Government of Åland. Carl Björkman was along with Julius Sundblom the most prominent figure of the Åland movement for reunion with Sweden. Following Finland's declaration of independence in 1917, Björkman became one of the leading proponents of returning Åland to Sweden, which resulted in the Åland Crisis. Before the resolution of the crisis, Björkman, along with Julius Sundblom, was arrested by Finnish police and spent a few days in prison, accused of treason. Folke is a parish in the county of Dorset in southern England, situated in the Blackmore Vale, approximately south-east of Sherborne.
