It was originally planned to open a week earlier but problems were encountered with Byreburn Viaduct. The goods yard consisted of three sidings, one of which passed through a cattle dock and continued through a goods shed and out of the other end. After its closure to passengers on 15 June 1964, the station was still open to goods traffic, although the passenger track to the platform had been lifted. Final closure was on 18 September 1967. Langholm , also known colloquially as the "Muckle Toon", is a burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, southern Scotland. Langholm lies between four hills in the valley of the River Esk in the Southern Uplands. Location and geography Langholm sits north of the Anglo-Scottish border on the A7 road running between Edinburgh and Carlisle. Edinburgh is to the north, Newcastleton is around to the east and Carlisle to the south. Langholm is surrounded by four hills in the River Esk valley within Scotland's wider Southern Uplands. North British Railway
The North British Railway was a British railway company, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was established in 1844, with the intention of linking with English railways at Berwick. The line opened in 1846, and from the outset the company followed a policy of expanding its geographical area, and competing with the Caledonian Railway in particular. In doing so it committed huge sums of money, and incurred shareholder disapproval that resulted in two chairmen leaving the company. Nonetheless the company successfully reached Carlisle, where it later made a partnership with the Midland Railway. It also linked from Edinburgh to Perth and Dundee, but for many years the journey involved a ferry crossing of the Forth and the Tay.
