Lamar Municipal Airport (Colorado)
Southeast Colorado Regional Airport (formerly known as the Lamar Municipal Airport) is in Prowers County, Colorado, three miles southwest of Lamar, which owns it. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 called it a ''general aviation'' facility. Airline flights (Central DC-3s) started about 1957; commuter airlines replaced successor Frontier in 1976-77. Facilities The airport covers 557 acres (225 ha) at an elevation of 3,706 feet (1,130 m). It has two runways: 18/36 is 6,304 by 100 feet (1,921 x 30 m) concrete and 8/26 is 5,001 by 60 feet (1,524 x 18 m) asphalt. In 2010 the airport had 13,508 aircraft operations, average 37 per day: 65% general aviation, 26% air taxi, and 9% military. 33 aircraft were then based at this airport: 73% single-engine, 24% multi-engine, and 3% jet. Lamar, Colorado
Lamar is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Prowers County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 7,804 at the 2010 United States Census. The city was named after Confederate slaveholder Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar II during the period that he was Secretary of the Interior in the futile hope that the town would be named as the land office. History Lamar was founded on May 24, 1886 by Issac Holmes. It was named after Lucius Lamar. At the time Lamar was the Secretary of the Interior, but previously he had written the Mississippi Ordinance of Secession, served the Confederacy as an officer and a diplomat. The first town elections were held in December, and C. M. Morrison became the town's first mayor. In 1889 Prowers County was established, and Lamar was elected to house the county's government. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) is an inventory of U.S. aviation infrastructure assets. NPIAS was developed and now maintained by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It identifies existing and proposed airports that are significant to national air transportation in the U.S., and thus eligible to receive federal grants under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
