Lake Mokoma
Lake Mokoma is a north-central Pennsylvania, United States, lake community that was developed in the late 19th century. Ellery Ingham and W.C. Mason wanted to take advantage of the arrival of the trains to nearby Laporte, and so they incorporated the Lake Mokoma Land Company in 1887 and built an earthen dam. It was to be a rival to the resort at Eagles Mere, about 5 miles away. By 1894,the lake had a steam vessel, a pavilion, and bath houses. The Lake Mokoma Land Company was not successful and another company, the Lake Mokoma Company, took over the lake in 1908. That company also failed after creating a beachhouse and dance hall. The next company, the Lake Mokoma Development Corporation took over in 1939. In 1959 the owners of the properties got together and bought the lake from the Corporation and created the current Lake Mokoma Association. Laporte is a borough and the county seat of Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 320 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Sullivan County. Laporte is surrounded by Laporte Township. It was named for John Laporte. Eagles Mere, PA
Eagles Mere is a borough in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 151 at the 2020 census. History Eagles Mere was laid out in 1877 and incorporated in 1899. The Eagles Mere Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Eagles Mere's name literally means "the eagle's lake", the word ''mere'' being a poetic synonym of "lake". Civil engineer Embley S. Chase came in 1886 to oversee its development as a resort town and laid the ground work. He participated in establishing its street plan, water sports carnival, ice toboggan slide, and trail system.
