Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area
Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area is a conservation area in New South Wales Australia, approximately from Newcastle. It is made up of six separate land sections around the coastal saltwater Lake Macquarie, covering of the lake's foreshore. Though most of the area was declared in 1996 one section, the Morisset area, was added in January 1999. Part of the 250 km Great North Walk passes through the conservation area. The conservation area, and adjacent Pulbah Island Nature Reserve, protect some of Lake Macquarie's little remaining natural bushland, and vegetation communities that are not present elsewhere in the state's park system. The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is a directorate of the New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment responsible for managing most of the protected areas in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Despite its name the NPWS is a state agency rather than a national one, with similarly named counterparts fulfilling comparable functions in other states and territories. Great North Walk
The Great North Walk is a walking track which runs from Sydney to Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. The main track, in length, runs between the Obelisk in Macquarie Place in Sydney to Queens Wharf in Bicentennial Park in Newcastle and is well sign-posted. There are many "side tracks" which link the track to populated areas along the length of the walk. The walk includes a huge variety of wildlife and scenery. A section at the northern, Newcastle end, is also known as the Yuelarbah Track. This section runs from the Teralba railway station to the Queens Wharf on Newcastle Harbour. At Kahibah Station, the Great North Walk uses a short section of The Fernleigh Track and passes along the northern side of Glenrock Lagoon to get to the coast. The City of Lake Macquarie is a local government area in Greater Newcastle and part of the Hunter Region in New South Wales, Australia. It was proclaimed a city from 7 September 1984. Morisset Hospital is a heritage-listed psychiatric hospital located on Silky Oak Drive (off Morisset Park Road), Morisset, Greater Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by the New South Wales Government Architect's Office and built from 1906 to 1959 by the Department of Public Works. The property is owned by the Department of Health. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Landcare Australia
Landcare Australia is the name for a community not-for-profit organisation which involves local groups of volunteers repairing the natural environment. Originally projects focused on agricultural farmland. The idea was that farmers, conservationists and scientists could work together to improve both farm quality and natural ecosystems. The Landcare Australia organisation has grown and diversified since its small-scale origins in the 1980s. The Landcare concept has grown to include groups working on town and city green areas, waterways, beaches and larger park areas.
