Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club
The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club is a private yacht club located in Mount Arlington, Morris County, New Jersey, United States, in the northwestern part of New Jersey, on the small peninsula of Bertrand Island along the state's largest lake, Lake Hopatcong. The club is non-profit, and governed by a slate of volunteers, elected by its members. The organization features an active sailing and social schedule, with an emphasis on activities for the entire family. History The club was founded in 1905, and the current clubhouse dates to 1910. In 2004, as part of the Club's centennial celebrations, N.J. Landing wrote ''A century of summers: the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club's first hundred years'' which was a joint project of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum and the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club. Bertrand Island, New Jersey
Bertrand Island, New Jersey, is a small peninsula in Lake Hopatcong, part of the community of Mount Arlington. It is best known as the former site of the Bertrand Island Amusement Park which existed from prior to World War I as a picnic ground to 1983, as well as being the place of origin for Bette Cooper, Miss America 1937. In 1925, Bertland Island gained in popularity as it offered 20 rides including a rollercoaster and boardwalk games. As the Great Depression hit, Lake Hopatcong's main industry of tourism also took a hit. In, addition, the creation of electric refrigeration, which was the lake's second largest industry also collapsed in 1938. It marked the end of the hotel period. It is shaped somewhat like a spoon. Adirondack Architecture refers to the rugged architectural style generally associated with the Great Camps within the Adirondack Mountains area in New York (state), New York. The builders of these camps used native building materials and sited their buildings within an irregular wooded landscape. These camps for the wealthy were built to provide a primitive, rustic appearance while avoiding the problems of in-shipping materials from elsewhere.
