Lake Aricota
Lake Aricota (possibly from Aymara ''ari'' pointed, sharp, ''quta'' lake) is a lake in Candarave Province, region of Tacna, Peru. It has an elevation of above sea level. Geography The lake originated when debris flows in steep canyon walls dammed the Callazas River. The waters of the lake are currently diverted to a hydroelectric plant, which has lowered the lake level from ~800.000 m3 in 1967 to a monthly average of 140.000 m3 in 2000. Main inflow sources of the lake are the Callazas River and the Jaruma creek. The main outflow is due to seepage through the debris dam to the Curibaya River (although hydroelectric use could count also). Waters of Lake Aricota have a high arsenic content as the waters of Callazas River and Salado River (a tributary of Jaruma Creek) pass through the Yucamane volcanic area. Candarave Province
Candarave Province is the smallest of four provinces in the Tacna Region in southern Peru. Its capital is Candarave. Boundaries *North: Moquegua Region *East: Puno Region *South: Tarata Province *West: Jorge Basadre Province Geography Some of the highest peaks of the province are Tutupaka and Yukamani, both are active volcanoes. Tacna Region
Tacna (; Aymara & Quechua: Taqna) is the southernmost department and region in Peru. The Chilean Army occupied the present-day Tacna Department during the War of the Pacific from 1885 to 1929 when it was reincorporated into Peruvian soil. Geography The department of Tacna is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, the department of Moquegua on the north, the department of Puno on the northeast, the Bolivian La Paz Department on the east, and the Arica-Parinacota Region of Chile on the south. The border between the Tacna Region and Chile is known as ''La Línea de la Concordia''. The region is located below the Titicaca plateau and has a diverse geography, including volcanoes, deserts, and mountainous zones, from which arise rivers that go over the punas and the plateaus, thus forming the hydrographical system of this zone. Aymara Language
Aymara (; also ) is an Aymaran language spoken by the Aymara people of the Bolivian Andes. It is one of only a handful of Native American languages with over one million speakers.The other native American languages with more than one million speakers are Nahuatl, Quechua languages, and Guaraní. Aymara, along with Spanish and Quechua, is an official language in Bolivia and Peru. It is also spoken, to a much lesser extent, by some communities in northern Chile, where it is a recognized minority language. Some linguists have claimed that Aymara is related to its more widely spoken neighbor, Quechua. That claim, however, is disputed. Yucamane
Yucamane, Yucamani or Yucumane is an andesitic stratovolcano in the Tacna Region of southern Peru. It is part of the Peruvian segment of the Central Volcanic Zone, one of the three volcanic belts of the Andes generated by the subduction of the Nazca plate beneath the South America plate. Peru's active volcanoes Ubinas, Sabancaya and El Misti are also part of the Central Volcanic Zone. Yucamane, together with the volcanoes Yucamane Chico and Calientes farther north, forms a Pleistocene volcanic group. Yucamane is constructed mainly by lava flows with subordinate pyroclastic deposits, and it has a well preserved summit crater with fumarolic activity. The volcanic group was active in the Pleistocene epoch, with the Holocene featuring several explosive eruptions occurring at Yucamane proper and effusive eruptions at Calientes.
