Stoke Poges () is a village and civil parish in south-east Buckinghamshire, England. It is centred north-north-east of Slough, its post town, and southeast of Farnham Common. Etymology In the name Stoke Poges, ''stoke'' means " stockaded (place)" that is staked with more than just boundary-marking stakes. In the 1086 ''Domesday Book'', the village was recorded as ''Stoche''. William Fitz-Ansculf, who held the manor in 1086 (in the grounds of which the Norman parish church was built), later became known as William Stoches or William of Stoke. Amicia of Stoke, heiress to the manor, married Robert Pogeys, Knight of the Shire 200 years later, and the village eventually became known as Stoke Poges. Robert Poges was the son of Savoyard Imbert Pugeys, valet to King Henry III and later steward of the royal household. Beverly Huke
Beverly Joan Mary Huke (born 19 May 1951) is an English professional golfer. She was a founding member of the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA) and won 7 tournaments on the Ladies European Tour (LET) between 1979 and 1986. Career Huke advanced to the final of the 1971 British Ladies Amateur where Mickey Walker won 3 and 1. She represented Great Britain & Ireland at the Vagliano Trophy in 1971 and 1975, and at the Curtis Cup in 1972. She won the English Women's Amateur Championship in 1975 at Royal Birkdale. After turning professional, Huke won seven tournaments in eight seasons on the LET in Scotland, England, Spain, Germany and Northern Ireland. She was also runner-up by one stroke twice. In 2017, ahead of the 40 year anniversary of the WPGA, Huke was made Honorary Member of the PGA in recognition of her role as a pioneer of women's professional golf. Muriel Thomson
Muriel Natalie Thomson (born 12 December 1954) is a retired Scottish professional golfer. Thomson was an amateur golfer in Scotland before playing on the Ladies European Tour from 1979 to 1989. During her time on the tour, she won the Order of Merit title in 1980 and 1983 while winning nine tournaments overall. In team events, Thomson was part of the team that won the 1977 Vagliano Trophy and played at the 1978 Curtis Cup. Early life and education On 12 December 1954, Thomson was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. She began golfing at the age of eight years old. Career Thomson worked in banking while she was an amateur golfer.
