Lady G
Janice Fyffe (born 7 May 1968), known as Lady G, is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae deejay. She is widely recognised as a dancehall veteran and pioneer. Early life Born in Spanish Town in the parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica, Fyffe attended St. Joseph High School and Dunoon Technical School. Her father is reggae singer Ken Fyffe, who has toured with the Congos and worked with vintage reggae groups the Sparkles and the Eternals. As a child she used to sneak out of the house to travel round the island with renowned soundsystem Black Scorpio. After leaving school, Lady G met dancehall deejay Lord Sassafrass, who became her mentor. She currently lives in New Jersey, United States. Spanish Town
Spanish Town ( jam, label= Jamaican Creole, Panish Tong) is the capital and the largest town in the parish of St. Catherine in the historic county of Middlesex, Jamaica. It was the Spanish and British capital of Jamaica from 1534 until 1872. The town is home to numerous memorials, the national archives, and one of the oldest Anglican churches outside England (the others are in Virginia, Maryland, and Bermuda). Rebel Salute is an annual music festival held in Jamaica. It is held on January 15 of every year, the birthday of promoter Tony Rebel. It is one of Jamaica's biggest music festivals, known for its focus on roots and conscious music. Rebel began the festival in 1994 in the parish of Manchester and was long held annually in St. Elizabeth on the country's south coast until 2012. Tony Rebel
Patrick George Anthony Barrett (born 15 January 1962), better known by his stage name Tony Rebel, is a Jamaican reggae deejay. Career Born in Manchester Parish, Jamaica, Barrett was initially a singer, appearing as Papa Tony or Tony Ranking in local talent contests and on sound systems including Sugar Minott's "Youth Promotion". His first release was the single "Casino" that appeared in 1988 on the MGB record label, although his career took off when he worked with Donovan Germain's Penthouse setup in the early 1990s. Ce'cile (also spelled Cécile, born Cecile Claudine Charlton on 24 February 1976 in Manchester Parish, Jamaica), is a Jamaican musician. She is among the best known current dancehall artists. Biography Ce'cile grew up in Porus, and Mile Gully, Jamaica, spending most of her youth in Mandeville, where her grandfather had previously been mayor. Ce' Cile discovered music through a friend of her father, Michael "Ibo" Cooper from the reggae band Third World and brought out her first single "Beat of Her Heart". Splash! (festival)
Splash! is one of Europe's biggest hip hop and reggae festivals. It first took place in 1998, in the inner city of Chemnitz, Germany. The next year, the location of the festival changed to the Oberrabenstein reservoir near the city, where it remained through 2006. In 2007 and 2008, the festival was held on the Pouch peninsula in Bitterfeld. In 2009, the festival moved to the Ferropolis in Gräfenhainichen, which remains the official site. In the early years, there were two stages; one each for hip-hop and reggae. In 2006, the festival extended to six stages and four party tents. In addition to hip-hop and drum and bass DJs, the tents also house dancehall and reggae sound systems, a graffiti contest and ITF matches. The name "Splash" hints at both the waterside location, and the phrase "to make a splash".
