Ladies' Man (1980 TV Series)
''Ladies' Man'' is an American sitcom starring Lawrence Pressman as a divorced male working at a women's magazine. The series premiered October 27, 1980, on CBS. The program also stars Louise Sorel and her former husband, Herbert Edelman. The show was written by Anne Convy and Carmen Finestra. The series did not do well in the ratings and was canceled after one season. Synopsis Divorced Alan Thackeray (Pressman) was a single father of daughter Amy (Natasha Ryan) and was completely surrounded by women. At home, with good advice on how to raise Amy (and to provide her with a motherly figure in her life, in lieu of her real mother), was his cheerful and friendly next-door neighbor, Betty Brill (Karen Morrow). Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. Carmen Finestra (born 1947) is an American producer and TV writer who currently is partnered with Matt Williams and David McFadzean in Wind Dancer Productions, a firm which Finestra also co-owns and co-founded with actor Tim Allen. For Wind Dancer, Finestra has produced or executive produced '' Where the Heart Is'', ''Firelight'', '' Soul Man'', '' Thunder Alley'' and his company's best known series, ''Home Improvement'', which starred Allen as a feisty home-improvement host, and in turn based on Allen's stand-up comedy routines. Herb Edelman
Herbert Edelman (November 5, 1933 – July 21, 1996) was an American actor of stage, film and television. He was twice nominated for an Emmy Award for his television work. One of his best-known roles was as Stanley Zbornak, the ex-husband of Dorothy Zbornak (played by Beatrice Arthur) on ''The Golden Girls''. He also had a recurring role on the 1980s medical drama '' St. Elsewhere''. Early life and career Edelman was born in New York City in the borough of Brooklyn. Louise Jacqueline Sorel (née Cohen, born August 6, 1940) is an American actress. She is perhaps best known for her role as Vivian Alamain in '' Days of Our Lives'' from 1992 to 2000, 2009 to 2011, 2017 to 2018, and 2020, Augusta Wainwright on '' Santa Barbara'' from 1984 to 1991, and Emily Tanner on '' Beacon Hill'' since 2014.
