Lachlan Millar
Lachlan Lucas Millar (born 17 December 1970) is an Australian politician. He has been the Liberal National Party member for Gregory in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2015. Millar grew up on a family property in the Central Highlands region, attending school in Capella and Emerald. After spending a decade working in the Emerald area, Millar was employed a rural reporter for ABC Local Radio for nine years. He then operated a small business on the Sunshine Coast where he worked as a public relations manager for Maroochy Shire Council for six years and unsuccessfully stood as a Division 7 councillor in the Sunshine Coast Regional Council local government elections in 2008. Prior to being elected, he worked as a media advisor to Mike Horan, Lawrence Springborg and John McVeigh. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. It has been the only unicameral state legislature in the country since the upper chamber, the Legislative Council, was abolished in 1922. The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) is established under the ''Electoral Act 1992'' as an independent statutory authority, responsible for the impartial conduct of state and local government elections in Queensland. Functions The Commission has three main functions. It must administer Queensland's electoral laws, conduct democratic parliamentary and industrial elections which are free and review local government boundaries. The ''Daily Mercury'' is an online newspaper which serves the Mackay region in Queensland, Australia. Print edition was later revived with a publication on Friday only. The newspaper is printed by Mackay Printing and Publishing and is owned by News Corp Australia. History The Daily Mercury ran from 1866 to 1905 as the ''Mackay Mercury and South Kennedy Advertiser''. From 1887 the paper was issued under the name ''Mackay Mercury'' until 1906 when the ''Daily Chronicle'' was absorbed by the paper and it was renamed the ''Daily Mercury''. Along with many other regional Australian newspapers owned by NewsCorp, the Daily Mercury ceased print editions in June 2020 and became online-only publication. John McVeigh (politician)
John Joseph McVeigh (born 13 May 1965) is a former Australian politician. He was elected to the House of Representatives at the 2016 federal election, representing the Division of Groom. He was a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland and sat in the Liberal party room. During the Turnbull Government he served in cabinet as Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government from 2017 to 2018. He previously served in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2012 to 2016 and was Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under Premier Campbell Newman. Early life McVeigh was born on 13 May 1965 in Allora, Queensland.
