Lac Cardinal Recreation Area is a municipally owned recreation area located adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park on the eastern shore of Lac Cardinal in Alberta, Canada. Lac Cardinal is a lake in northwestern Alberta, Canada. It is located at the southern limit of Mackenzie Highway, near Grimshaw. Lac Cardinal has a total area of 50 km2. Grimshaw, Alberta
Grimshaw is a town in northern Alberta, Canada. It is approximately west of the Town of Peace River at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 2A and along Mackenzie Northern Railway. By virtue of being the original starting point of Highway 35, which leads to the Northwest Territories, Grimshaw is referred to as Mile Zero of the Mackenzie Highway. History The town was named after Dr. M.E. Grimshaw, a pioneer doctor from Kingston, Ontario who settled in Peace River (then known as Peace River Crossing) in 1914. He practiced in the area for many years and also served at different capacities in the local government at the county and the village levels until 1922, retiring from politics as the mayor of Peace River. In 1929 he moved his family to Fairview, where he died in November of that year. Peace River, originally named Peace River Crossing and known as in French, is a town in northwest Alberta, Canada. It is along the banks of the Peace River at its confluence with the Smoky River, the Heart River and Pat's Creek. It is approximately northwest of Edmonton and northeast of Grande Prairie on Highway 2. It was known as the Village of Peace River Crossing between 1914 and 1916. The Peace River townsite is nearly below the relatively flat terrain surrounding it. Pat's Creek used to be an open channel through the town but is now channelled through a culvert under the town streets, re-emerging at the mouth on the Peace River at the Riverfront Park. Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum
The Lac Cardinal Regional Pioneer Village Museum was developed by the Lac Cardinal Pioneer Museum Society which was founded in 1988. It is located within the Lac Cardinal Recreation Area and features four homes, a hall, municipal office, school, barn, pole sheds, church, blacksmith shop, railway station, barbershop, general store and bakery, all furnished, depict pioneering life in this area. Admission is by donation. The church in the museum is available during the summer for weddings and the hall for family or group activities. The museum is open from the May long weekend through Labour Day Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is run by volunteers Volunteering is a voluntary act of an individual or group freely giving time and labor for community service.
