Label Fandango
Label Fandango is an independent record label based in Highbury, London. Evolving out of parent companies Fierce Panda Records and Pointy Records, it has been releasing limited edition music singles since 2005. It is run by live music promotion company Club Fandango. Origin and format In late 2005, Label Fandango Records, was set up in order to release music from new and up-and-coming bands based in the UK. It began through Andy Macleod and Simon Williams, of Pointy Records and Fierce Panda Records respectively, who together were the creators of London live music promotions company Club Fandango. Williams had previously released the debut singles by Coldplay and Keane. The no-budget record company has a strictly DIY theme to it, with the tag line "No frills, All thrills". Fierce Panda Records
Fierce Panda Records is a London-based independent record label, with its first release in February 1994. It also produced a small number of releases that year by now famous artists such as Ash, The Bluetones, Baby Bird and Supergrass. Fierce Panda is also credited with releases by Acres of Lions, Air Traffic, Art Brut, The Blackout, Boy Kill Boy, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Desperate Journalist, Embrace, Goldheart Assembly, Kenickie, Seafood, Keane, Placebo, The Polyphonic Spree and Shitdisco. In the autumn of 1997, Fierce Panda formed the sub-label Rabid Badger Records to release more dance oriented music, and in spring 1998 the sub-label Livid Meerkat for post-rock music. Fierce Panda also had released compilation albums and EPs, whose titles are mainly puns, often in-jokes. Gramophone Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. Fanfarlo
Fanfarlo are a London-based indie/alternative band formed in 2006 by Swedish musician Simon Balthazar. They fuse elements of folk, indie rock and post-punk using eclectic instrumentation including trumpet, violin, mandolin, musical saw, clarinet and saxophone. Since their formation they have released three studio albums and one EP. Background The band, whose name comes from the Charles Baudelaire novella ''La Fanfarlo'', started performing live in small London indie clubs in 2006, and released four limited edition 7" singles on London-based indie labels (one of which is a split single with Sleeping States) throughout 2006–2008. Taken from the band's debut studio album ''Fractured Life'', the track was released through Tiny Consumer, a record label division of EMI. "Charlotte" was first released as part of the band's debut single, a double a-side with "Just Abuse Me", on July 17, 2006. __NOTOC__ "Just Abuse Me" was the first release from Bournemouth-based alternative rock band Air Traffic. It was released as a double a-side with "Charlotte", a song which would later be re-released as a solo single. The vinyl was the 5th in a series of black and white 7-inch records released by Label Fandango, the independent record label from the creators of live music promotion company Club Fandango. The Hot Puppies
The Hot Puppies were a Welsh band formed in Aberystwyth in 2000 and later based in Cardiff. They were signed to Fierce Panda Records. After releasing three albums, they split up in 2008. A-side And B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides.
