Just Abuse Me
__NOTOC__ "Just Abuse Me" was the first release from Bournemouth-based alternative rock band Air Traffic. It was released as a double a-side with "Charlotte", a song which would later be re-released as a solo single. The vinyl was the 5th in a series of black and white 7-inch records released by Label Fandango, the independent record label from the creators of live music promotion company Club Fandango. It was described by the label as "Piano-led indie rock". The vinyl would lead to the band's major label signing, as following Zane Lowe playing "Just Abuse Me" on his BBC Radio 1 show, the band were signed to a long-term contract by EMI in May 2006. Gramophone Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Air Traffic
Air Traffic are an English alternative rock band from Bournemouth signed to EMI Records. Formed in 2003, the band consists of Chris Wall (piano, lead vocals), David Ryan Jordan (Drums), Tom Pritchard (guitar) and Jim Maddock (bass guitar). The band's name originated from when they used to rehearse in an industrial unit next to Hurn Airport, where air traffic control signals could be picked up on their amplifiers. Their music features heavy use of piano, and they have been described by ''NME'' to be like " Supergrass covering Little Richard". The band have received success with the release of their single " Shooting Star", which debuted at No. 30 in the UK Singles Chart, and the release of their debut album, ''Fractured Life''. Fractured Life
''Fractured Life'' is the debut album by English alternative rock band Air Traffic. It was released on 2 July 2007 on the Tiny Consumer label, an imprint of EMI. The album contains UK Top 40 hit "Charlotte" as well as other singles "Just Abuse Me", "Never Even Told Me Her Name", " Shooting Star" and, most recently, "No More Running Away". The album was released in America on 5 February 2008. In the first week of its release, ''Fractured Life'' attained a #42 on the UK Albums Chart. James Cannon, of Capital Radio, named the album "Album of the Week" for 2–9 July 2007. On 30 July 2007, the band re-released the album in a limited pressing 12 inch vinyl form. The album was nominated for the 2008 XFM New Music Award, where the band played a special one-off performance at the ceremony at London's KOKO. Label Fandango
Label Fandango is an independent record label based in Highbury, London. Evolving out of parent companies Fierce Panda Records and Pointy Records, it has been releasing limited edition music singles since 2005. It is run by live music promotion company Club Fandango. Origin and format In late 2005, Label Fandango Records, was set up in order to release music from new and up-and-coming bands based in the UK. It began through Andy Macleod and Simon Williams, of Pointy Records and Fierce Panda Records respectively, who together were the creators of London live music promotions company Club Fandango. Williams had previously released the debut singles by Coldplay and Keane. The no-budget record company has a strictly DIY theme to it, with the tag line "No frills, All thrills". "Charlotte" is a single by Bournemouth-based alternative rock band Air Traffic. Taken from the band's debut studio album ''Fractured Life'', the track was released through Tiny Consumer, a record label division of EMI. "Charlotte" was first released as part of the band's debut single, a double a-side with "Just Abuse Me", on July 17, 2006. The single was released as the fifth in a series of black and white vinyls by Label Fandango - the independent record label of live music promotion company Club Fandango - which was the band's record label at the time. A-side And B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Use of this language has largely declined in the 21st century as the music industry has transitioned away from analog recordings towards digital formats without physical sides, such as CDs, downloads and streaming. Club Fandango
Club Fandango is a live music promotions company based in Highbury, London. It was started in 2001, by Simon Williams and Andy MacLeod. The former runs Fierce Panda records, the latter the Pointy Records label. Williams and MacLeod had previously promoted nights such as Club Spangle!, NME "On" nights, Club Pointy and Club Panda. Initially promoting every Tuesday night at the Dublin Castle, Camden, Club Fandango soon expanded to regularly put on gigs in other north London venues such as Camden Barfly. On certain nights, Club Fandango teamed up with Rock Sound magazine, the BMI and digital music station BBC 6 Music. Alexander Zane Reid Lowe (born 7 August 1973) is a New Zealand radio DJ, live DJ, record producer, and television presenter. After an early career in music creation, production and DJing, he moved to the UK in 1997.
