La Soledad (film)
''La Soledad'' is a 2016 drama film and the directorial debut of Venezuelan filmmaker Jorge Thielen Armand. It premiered in the 73rd Venice International Film Festival. The production received the financial support of The Venice Biennale College and it is a co-production between Venezuela, Canada and Italy. Plot The inspiration for filming ''La Soledad'' emerged from the childhood memories and experiences of the director in the family house of his grandparents, in the city of Caracas, Venezuela. After living years abroad, he came back to the country to shoot in that same house a film that sways between documentary and fiction. The house, which is itself a character, has been practically abandoned by his family and is about to collapse. It is now the home of new occupants: Rosina, who was formerly an employee of the owners, and her grandson José. Jorge Thielen Armand (born 1990, in Caracas, Venezuela) is a film director, screenwriter and Film producer, producer. He studied communications at Concordia University in Montreal, and later, with Rodrigo Michelangeli, founded the Canadian-Venezuelan film production company La Faena Films. He has directed two feature films, La Soledad (film), ''La Soledad'' and ''La Fortaleza (film), La Fortaleza,'' and the short film ''Flor de la Mar (short film), Flor de la Mar''. All three films have received positive reviews from critics. 73rd Venice International Film Festival
The 73rd annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 31 August to 10 September 2016. English director Sam Mendes was the President of the Jury for the main competition. The opening night film was Damien Chazelle's musical ''La La Land''. The Golden Lion was awarded to Lav Diaz's film ''The Woman Who Left''. A new project named Venice Production Bridge was introduced in this edition of the festival. The new project is intended to attract industry professionals and focus on original projects for films, internet, series, virtual reality, and works in progress, in order to help their development and production. It is also meant to work in conjunction with the Venice Film Market which started in 2012.
