''The Beauty of Cadiz'' (French: ''La belle de Cadix'', Spanish: ''La bella de Cádiz'') is a 1953 French-Spanish musical comedy film directed by Raymond Bernard and Eusebio Fernández Ardavín and starring Luis Mariano, Carmen Sevilla and Jean Tissier.Alberto Mira, ''The A to Z of Spanish Cinema'', Rowman & Littlefield, 2010, page 280. It is an operetta film, based on the 1945 operetta of the same title. It was shot at the Boulogne Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Léon Barsacq. Plot A French cinema company is shooting a picture requiring real gypsies, so they hire a whole bunch and choose beautiful María Luisa to team with famed singer Carlos Molina. The plot includes a marriage and María Luisa believes it has been a real one. Raymond Bernard
Raymond Bernard (10 October 1891 – 12 December 1977) was a French film director and screenwriter whose career spanned more than 40 years. He is best remembered for several large-scale historical productions, including the silent films '' Le Miracle des loups'' (''The Miracle of the Wolves'') and '' Le Joueur d'échecs'' (''The Chess Player'') and in the 1930s '' Les Croix de bois'' (''Wooden Crosses'') and a highly regarded adaptation of ''Les Misérables''. Marie Jean Pierre Flourens (13 April 1794 – 6 December 1867), father of Gustave Flourens, was a French physiologist, the founder of experimental brain science, and a pioneer in anesthesia. José "Chegüi" Torres (May 3, 1936 – January 19, 2009) was a Puerto Rican-born American professional boxer. As an amateur boxer, he won a silver medal in the junior middleweight division at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. In 1965, he defeated Willie Pastrano to win the WBC, WBA and lineal light heavyweight championships. Torres trained with the legendary boxing trainer Cus D'Amato. In 1997, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Thérèse Dorny (born Thérèse Jeanne Longo-Dorni; 18 September 1891 – 14 March 1976) was a French film and stage actress. Biography Thérèse Jeanne Longo-Dorni was born on 18 September 1891 in Paris, Île-de-France, France, the only child to Gaudence Jean Baptiste Marie Longo-Dorni (born 1859) and Marie Antonia Longo-Dorni (née Junghanss, born 1865).
