La Plaine, Quebec
La Plaine is an off-island suburb of Montreal, and a formerly incorporated town in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It lies north of Montreal and Laval. It is now part of the city of Terrebonne in the Les Moulins Regional County Municipality. It is part of the administrative division of Lanaudière. History The city of La Plaine was founded in 1830 on fragments of other cities, namely Mascouche, Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Saint-Lin–Laurentides and Terrebonne. At that time, the lords of Terrebonne and Lachenaie were building the road named "chemin de la Grande Ligne" to join the two cities. It is now called Laurier Boulevard. In 1877, the rail system was developed and stimulated the economic growth. The village of Saint-Joachim was founded during that time, which was later, in 1920, to be renamed La Plaine. The Wormhoudt massacre (or Wormhout massacre) was the mass murder of 81 British and French POWs by Waffen-SS soldiers from the 1st SS Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler during the Battle of France in May 1940. Fighting As part of the British Expeditionary Force's (BEF) retreat to Dunkirk, the 144th Infantry Brigade of the 48th (South Midland) Infantry Division was holding the road that runs southward from Bergues through Wormhoudt, Cassel and Hazebrouck to delay the German advance. British troops at Wormhoudt were overrun by advancing German forces. Having exhausted their ammunition supplies, the soldiers surrendered to the SS troops assuming that they would be taken prisoner according to the Geneva Convention. The Plain
The Plain (french: La Plaine), better known as The Marsh (french: Le Marais), was the majority of independent deputies in the French National Convention during the French Revolution. They sat between the Girondists on their right and Montagnards on their left. Their name arises from the fact their benches were by the debating floor, lower down from the Montagnards. Its members were also known as ''Maraisards'', or derogatorily ''Toads'' (french: "crapauds du Marais") as toads live in marshes. None of these three groups was an organized party as is known today. La Plaine Stade de France, officially La Plaine Stade de France–Saint-Denis–Aubervilliers, is a station on the line B of the Réseau Express Régional, a hybrid suburban commuter and rapid transit line. In the future, it will also be served by Paris Metro Line 15. It is named after several nearby landmarks, the La Plaine district where the station is located, the nearby Stade de France stadium, the Saint-Denis commune where the station is located, and the nearby Aubervilliers commune. Ledringhem ( vls, Ledringem) is a Communes of France, commune in the Nord (French department), Nord Departments of France, department in northern France.
