La Jornada
''La Jornada'' (''The Working Day'') is one of Mexico City's leading daily newspapers. It was established in 1984 by Carlos Payán Velver. The current editor ''(directora general)'' is Carmen Lira Saade. ''La Jornada'' has presence in eight states of the Mexican Republic with local editions in Aguascalientes, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, San Luis Potosí, Puebla and Veracruz ''(La Jornada de Oriente).'' As of 2006 it had approximately 287,000 readers in Mexico City, and, according to them, their website has approximately 180,000 daily page views. The online version was launched in 1995, with no restrictions on access and a Google-based search that includes the historic archives of the newspaper. The National Autonomous University of Mexico ( es, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) is a public research university in Mexico. It is consistently ranked as one of the best universities in Latin America, where it's also the biggest in terms of enrollment. An op-ed, short for "opposite the editorial page", is a written prose piece, typically published by a North-American newspaper or magazine, which expresses the opinion of an author usually not affiliated with the publication's editorial board. Op-eds are different from both editorials (opinion pieces submitted by editorial board members) and letters to the editor (opinion pieces submitted by readers). In 2021, ''The New York Times''—the paper credited with developing and naming the modern op-ed page—announced that it was retiring the label, and would instead call submitted opinion pieces "Guest Essays." Verónica Murguía
Verónica Murguía (born 1960) is a Mexican fantasy writer who has won multiple prizes for her children's literature and novels. Her husband was poet David Huerta. Biography Verónica Murguía was born on 5 November 1960 in Mexico City, Mexico. She attended the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas e Historia (National School of Visual arts and history). She studied history at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and then began working as an illustrator. Her first publications in 1990 were a novel entitled ''"Rosendo''" and "''Historia y aventuras de Taté el mago y Clarisel la cuentera''", which won the National Short Story Prize for Children Juan de la Cabada. Joan Martinez Alier (born 1939, Barcelona, Spain) is a Catalan economist, Emeritus Professor of Economics and Economic History and researcher at ICTA at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Mario Orlando Hardy Hamlet Brenno Benedetti Farrugia (; 14 September 1920 – 17 May 2009), was an Uruguayan journalist, novelist, and poet and an integral member of the Generación del 45. Despite publishing more than 80 books and being published in twenty languages he was not well known in the English-speaking world. In the Spanish-speaking world he is considered one of Latin America's most important writers of the latter half of the 20th century. Hélène Elizabeth Louise Amélie Paula Dolores Poniatowska Amor (born May 19, 1932), known professionally as Elena Poniatowska () is a French-born Mexican journalist and author, specializing in works on social and political issues focused on those considered to be disenfranchised especially women and the poor. Gustavo Esteva (born August 20, 1936 in Mexico City - died March 17, 2022 in Oaxaca was a Mexican activist, "deprofessionalized intellectual" and founder of the Universidad de la Tierra in the Mexican city of Oaxaca. Antonio Helguera
Antonio Helguera (8 November 1965 – 25 June 2021) was a Mexican cartoonist. He studied engraving at La Esmeralda National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving. In 1983, he began his career as a political cartoonist in the newspaper '' El Día''. He continued this work at ''La Jornada'' (where his cartoons appeared regularly) and '' Siempre!'', in addition to '' El Chahuistle'' and '' El Chamuco'', magazines of which he was also the co-editor.
