However, it is also known as "" (; "The Crowd"), a French language version with new lyrics written by , popularized by famed French vocalist Édith Piaf and released in 1957. Origin The song "", was composed in 1936 by Ángel Cabral, with (Spanish) lyrics by Enrique Dizeo, both of Argentine origin, as a Peruvian waltz. Peruvian waltz, also known as ("creole waltz"), was a popular genre in Hispanic America between the 1930s and 1950s, and the song, initially covered by Argentine singer Hugo del Carril, became a regional hit.

Pierre Bruno Hugo Fontana, otherwise known as Hugo del Carril (30 November 1912 – 13 August 1989 in Buenos Aires), was an Argentine film actor, film director and tango singer of the classic era. Early life Born in Buenos Aires, del Carril was the son of parents of a rich economic position, his mother Orsolina Bertani was born in Argentina (daughter of the Italian Anarchist Orsini Bertani), but his father Hugo Fontana was an Italian architect, born in Milan. But in spite of the comforts and the comfortable life they led, his parents separated and young Hugo was left in the charge of a family friend. Career Del Carril originally began as a popular personality on Argentine radio, and parlayed that into a film career that began in late 1936. He was an immediate hit, and developed into one of Argentina's major film stars. Chico & the Gypsies is a French musical formation of rumba catalana, flamenco and Latin pop and rock tunes led by Jahloul Chico Bouchikhi, who was one of the founders of the Gipsy Kings. Orquesta Aragón
Orquesta Aragón is a Cuban musical band formed on 30 September 1939, by Orestes Aragón Cantero in Cienfuegos, Cuba. The band originally had the name ''Ritmica 39'', then ''Ritmica Aragón'' before settling on its final form. Though they did not create the ''Cha-cha-cha'', they were arguably the best charanga in Cuba during the 1950s and 1960s. Their trade-marks included high-class instrumentalists playing in tight ensemble style, and rhythmical innovations which kept their sound up to date. La Sonora Dinamita is a Mexican- Colombian musical group that plays cumbia, a Tropical music genre from Colombia but popular throughout Latin America.
