LMS Rebuilt Royal Scot Class
The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Rebuilt Royal Scot Class is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives. 70 members of this class were rebuilt by the LMS and its successor British Railways (BR) from LMS Royal Scot Class engines by the replacement of their life expired parallel boilers with a type 2A boiler over the period 1943–1955. (The class sometimes is numbered 71 as it included a prototype 1935 rebuild LMS (4)6170 British Legion, but sufficient technical differences existed which dictate that it is treated separately). They were the second type of LMS 2 and 2A boilered 4-6-0 locomotives, after the rebuild of ''British Legion'' and the LMS Rebuilt Jubilee Class. Sir William Stanier
Sir William Arthur Stanier, (27 May 1876 – 27 September 1965) was a British railway engineer, and was chief mechanical engineer of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. Biography Sir William Stanier was born in Swindon, where his father worked for the Great Western Railway (GWR) as William Dean's Chief Clerk, and educated at Swindon High School and also, for a single year, at Wycliffe College. In 1891 he followed his father into a career with the GWR, initially as an office boy and then for five years as an apprentice in the workshops. Between 1897 and 1900 he worked in the Drawing Office as a draughtsman, before becoming Inspector of Materials in 1900. In 1904, George Jackson Churchward appointed him as Assistant to the Divisional Locomotive Superintendent in London. The Scots Guards (SG) is one of the five Foot Guards regiments of the British Army. Its origins are as the personal bodyguard of King Charles I of England and Scotland. Its lineage can be traced back to 1642, although it was only placed on the English Establishment (thus becoming part of what is now the British Army) in 1686. LMS Royal Scot Class 6115 Scots Guardsman
LMS Royal Scot Class 6115 ''Scots Guardsman'' is a preserved British steam locomotive. Built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) as a member of the Royal Scot Class, it was later operated by British Railways. History 6115 was built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Springburn, Glasgow. It was named ''Scots Guardsman'' in 1928 after the Scots Guards. After receiving smoke deflectors, it starred in the 1936 film '' Night Mail''. 6115 was rebuilt in 1947 with a new tapered type 2A boiler, and was painted in LMS 1946-style black livery. It was the first of the rebuilt engines to receive smoke deflectors and the only one to run with them as an LMS engine. The Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust (RSL>) is a charitable trust set up in 2009, to enable ownership and restoration to mainline running condition of the London Midland and Scottish Railway Royal Scot Class locomotive No. 6100 ''Royal Scot''. Crewe Diesel TMD
Crewe Diesel Depot is a former diesel-electric locomotive traction maintenance depot, formerly Crewe Diesel Traction Maintenance Depot or Crewe Diesel TMD, situated to the south of and visible from Crewe railway station. Built in 1958 by British Railways it was used as a maintenance facility for the diesel locomotives that were at the time replacing steam traction across the national rail network. Following the privatisation of British Rail depot ownership transferred to EWS, now DB Schenker and continued as a base for diesel traction, latterly becoming a facility for storing surplus rolling stock. The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment), once known as the Royal Regiment of Foot, was the oldest and most senior infantry regiment of the line of the British Army, having been raised in 1633 during the reign of Charles I of Scotland. London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Royal Scot Class 6100 (British Railways' number 46100) ''Royal Scot'' (formerly 6152 ''King's Dragoon Guardsman'' prior to identity swap) is a preserved British steam locomotive. History The original 6100 was the first of its class, built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow. It was named ''Royal Scot'' after the Royal Scots. In 1933, 6152 ''The King's Dragoon Guardsman'' and 6100 swapped identities permanently. 6152 had been built at Derby Works in 1930.
