LFF I Lyga
The I Lyga, LFF I Lyga, Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 14-16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division and the bottom 4 clubs being relegated to the II Lyga. Starting with the 2016 season, the second-placed team qualifies to promotion play-offs with A Lyga's next-to-last team. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. History There were 15 teams competing in the 2017 season. At the end of this season, three teams withdrew from all competitions. In 2018, there were 14 teams that started the championship. FK Banga Gargždai
FK Banga Gargždai is a Lithuanian football club from the city of Gargždai. History FK Banga was founded in 1966. During the period from 1966 to 1990, the club was in the Soviet Lithuanian football championship. From 1990, they played in the Lithuanian championship. From 1994 to 2001, they were in the top tier. After the 2001 A Lyga, they were relegated to the I Lyga. The team earned promotion to the A Lyga, Lithuania's top football division, for the 2009 season after FBK Kaunas and Atlantas Klaipėda voluntarily withdrew their participation. Banga were also members of the A Lyga from 1994 to 2000. In the 2019 LFF I Lyga, FK Banga finished in second position and played in the relegation/promotion match with FK Palanga. Futbolo klubas Žalgiris, commonly known as FK Žalgiris, Žalgiris Vilnius or simply Žalgiris, is a Lithuanian professional football club based in Vilnius. 1990 Baltic League
1990 Baltic League (russian: Чемпионат Прибалтики по футболу 1990) was an international football competition organized in 1990 between three Baltic states with the ongoing dissolution of the Soviet Union. The league consisting of 18 clubs from the Lithuania SSR, Estonian SSR, the Latvian SSR and a special invitee FC Progress Cherniakhovsk from Kaliningrad Oblast. For Lithuanian teams the league also served as a preliminary (first stage) tournament for the first post-Soviet Lithuanian football championship. With the ongoing revolutions of 1989, in 1990 the Baltic republics declared reinstatement of their independence and exit out of the Soviet Union. Football Academy of Šiauliai or FA Šiauliai is a Lithuanian football academy from the city of Šiauliai. The team is simply known as "Šiauliai". The academy train women's and men's teams, as well as children's and underage groups in "U" type championships.
