Final tables of the Lithuanian Championship in 1991 are presented below. AFK Neris Vilnius was a Lithuanian football team from the city of Vilnius. In 1991 it was known as Vilnius Makabi, and supported by the Lithuanian Sports Club Makabi. The club dissolved in 1994. A Lyga
The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. The A Lyga is an abbreviation of Aukščiausia lyga meaning Highest League. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation LFF ( lt, Lietuvos Futbolo Federacija). The Aukščiausia lyga also existed during the Soviet period of Lithuania, but was not considered to be a professional league until dissolution of the Soviet Union. The league size has varied between 8 and 12 teams in the recent seasons, however 2020 A Lyga the league featured record low of only 6 teams. But in the latest 2021 A Lyga season there were 10 teams. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. Tauras Šiauliai
Tauras is a Lithuanian brewery, established in Vilnius in 1860. Tauras was taken over by Royal Unibrew in 2001. It is a part of Kalnapilis-Tauras Group. History The original brewery was founded in 1860 in Vilna, then in the Russian Empire. The firm was located in the borough of Lukiškės, right outside the city's limits. The original founders were two local Jewish entrepreneurs: Abel Sołowiejczyk and Iser Berg Wolf. However, around 1866, the brewery adopted the name of one of the founders' associates, Wilhelm Szopen, possibly because of the latter's surname being similar to the name of a highly popular Polish-French composer Fryderyk Chopin (sometimes written as ''Fryderyk Szopen'' in Polish). With time, Wilhelm Szopen indeed became the owner of the brewery, though its founders continued to run the daily business matters. FC Vilnius
FC Vilnius was a Lithuanian football club, playing in the capital city of Vilnius. At first it was known under the name ''Šviesa''. In 2003, the club made its debut in the Lithuanian top division. In 2007, the club went back to the second division, and in 2008, this club ceased to exist. The club was founded in 1974 on the basis of the Lithuanian national youth team. Up to 1990 there were around 500 youths were training in the club's facilities. After Lithuanian's independence, the sports organisations underwent restructuring. In 2001 by the initiative of businessman Algimantas Breikštas the club was recreated as restored the club as „Šviesa“. The club played in A Lyga between 2003-2007. Since 2004 season the club was renamed to FC Vilnius. After a turmoil with player contracts in 2008 the club failed to qualify for A Lyga license, and fell apart. FK Visaginas (also previously Interas-AE) is a Lithuanian football team from Visaginas. Before 2006, the club was fully amateur and many players of the team worked in an atomic plant. The club was promoted to Lithuanian A Lyga 2007 season and completely revamped its squad, mostly taking players on loan from FC Vilnius. But after a disastrous season the club failed to acquire A lyga license and was also denied participation in LFF I Lyga. FK Minija was a Lithuanian football team from town Kretinga. History Club founded in 1962. In soviet occupation period played in "A" klasė and Aukščiausia lyga (First tier). The best season was in 1964, when team took third place in top division. In the same year team won Lithuanian football cup. In Lithuanian Independence period team was in second or third tier. FK Dainava Alytus
FK Dainava was a Lithuanian football club from Alytus. The club was established in 1935 as FK Alytis, before being renamed FK Dainava after a merger with ''FK Vidzgiris Alytus'' in December 2010. History The roots of Dainava can be traced back to two predecessor clubs, FK Alytis and FK Vidzgiris. ''FK Alytis Alytus'' were founded in 1935, apparently as the heir of a former club from Alytus also called "Alytis" which existed between 1965 and 2002. Alytis began play at the Lithuanian third level, from which they were immediately promoted in their very first season. The side soon established itself as one of the best teams of the I Lyga, winning the second-level championship in 2005 and 2007 and finishing as runners-up in 2006 and from 2008 to 2010.
