Lê Nguyên Vỹ
Brigadier General Lê Nguyên Vỹ (22 August 1933, Sơn Tây, Tonkin, French Indochina—30 April 1975, Saigon, Republic of Vietnam) was an officer in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. Education In 1951, he graduated from the officers candidate course in the Regional Military School, Military Region II at Phu Bai near Huế. Military service He was the commander of 5th Infantry Division at Lai Khe. He was born in Sơn Tây province, North Vietnam. As a deputy Commander of the 5th Infantry, He fought fiercely during the siege of Battle of An Lộc and later was promoted to the CO of the division. Sơn Tây, Hanoi
__NOTOC__ Sơn Tây () is a district-level town ("thị xã") in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. It was the capital of Sơn Tây province before merging with Hà Đông province to form Hà Tây province in 1965. Sơn Tây lies 35 km west of the capital Hanoi. It had a city status in Hà Tây province. However, when Hà Tây was absorbed into Hanoi, Sơn Tây was demoted from a city to a town. It is often referred to as “soldier town” due to the proliferation of army barracks and military institutions that surrounds the town, including the Vietnamese People's Army Infantry Academy. Sơn Tây's future is seen as being very much that of a satellite city of Hanoi and as a result there are plans to relocate universities and other public facilities to Sơn Tây where land is cheaper and more plentiful. Phu Bai Combat Base (also known as Phu Bai Airfield and Camp Hochmuth) is a former U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps base south of Huế, in central Vietnam. History 1962-5 The Army Security Agency, operating under cover of the 3rd Radio Research Unit (3rd RRU), established a radio facility at Phu Bai in 1963, 12 km southeast of Huế on Highway 1. The operational unit was later redesignated as the 8th Radio Research Field Station (8th RRFS). 1965-7 On 10 April 1965 Task Force Alpha of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines was landed by helicopter from Da Nang Air Base to secure the area.
