Långön(Finland)
Långön is an island in the northwest of the Swedish sector of the Bay of Bothnia, in the Luleå archipelago. Description Långön is a relatively large island in the Luleå archipelago, with an area of . It lies to the north of Stor-Brändön and west of Mjoön. It has a fine sandy beach on the north shore, but the beach is exposed to the weather. The land has gently rolling hills, the highest being Storberget on the north side at . The island is mostly tree-covered, with some scattered bogs of different sizes and one shallow lake. As of 2008 there were five permanent residents on the island. There were 18 houses, mostly summer cabins. Access Boats can land on the beach. Bay Of Bothnia
The Bothnian Bay or Bay of Bothnia (; ) is the northernmost part of the Gulf of Bothnia, which is in turn the northern part of the Baltic Sea. The land holding the bay is Post-glacial rebound, still rising after the weight of ice-age glaciers has been removed, and within 2,000 years the bay will be a large freshwater lake since its link to the south Kvarken is mostly less than deep. The bay today is fed by several large rivers, and is relatively unaffected by tides, so has low salinity. It freezes each year for up to six months. Compared to other parts of the Baltic it has little plant or animal life. Extent The bay is divided from the Bothnian Sea, the southern part of the Gulf of Bothnia, by the Northern Quark (Kvarken) strait. Norrbotten (), known in English as North Bothnia, is a Swedish province (''landskap'') in northernmost Sweden. It borders south to Västerbotten, west to Swedish Lapland, and east to Finland. Administration The traditional provinces of Sweden serve no administrative or political purposes, but are historical and cultural entities. In this case, however, the county is older than the province. When the new national border to the Russian Grand Duchy of Finland formed, the province of Västerbotten split in two, and formed the municipalities of Kolari, Muonio, Pello, Tornio, and Ylitornio. Luleå
Luleå ( , , locally ; smj, Luleju; fi, Luulaja) is a city on the coast of northern Sweden, and the capital of Norrbotten County, the northernmost county in Sweden. Luleå has 48,728 inhabitants in its urban core (2018) and is the seat of Luleå Municipality (with a total population of 77,832). Småskär
Småskär and Finnskär are two closely neighboring islands in the northwest of the Swedish sector of the Bay of Bothnia, in the Luleå archipelago. Location Småskär and Finnskär to the east were previously collections of reefs that grew together into islands due to post-glacial rebound. They can be reached in summer by tour boats from Luleå.
