Längelmäki
Längelmäki is a former municipality of Finland. Längelmäki was divided in 2007 between Jämsä and Orivesi. Längelmäki is situated by the lake Längelmävesi, from which it has got also its name. The administrative center of Längelmäki was the village of Länkipohja. Its western parts are now part of the Pirkanmaa region and the eastern part are part of the Central Finland region. The municipality had a population of 1,734 (2003) and covered an area of 496,88 km2 of which 73,33 km2 was water (2006). The population density was 3.5 inhabitants per km2. The municipality was unilingually Finnish. History Längelmäki was first mentioned in 1506. At the time it was called ''Längelmä'' and it was a part of the Orivesi parish. Jämsä () is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the Central Finland region, about southwest of Jyväskylä. Kuorevesi
Kuorevesi is a former municipality in Finland. It was part of the Pirkanmaa region in western Finland. In the year 2001 it was consolidated into the town of Jämsä in the Central Finland region. The name of the municipality came from the Lake Kuorevesi that is situated in its area. History The name of Kuorevesi is derived from the lake's name, which literally means "smelt water". Kuorevesi was first mentioned in 1449 as ''Kohrevesi'', though this may have referred to the lake. The area was a part of the Kangasala parish until 1540 and Orivesi until 1640, after which it became a part of the Längelmäki parish separated from Orivesi in the same year. Kuorevesi acquired its first proper church in 1683. Kuorevesi became a separate municipality in 1873 and a parish in 1881. It remained independent until 2001, when it was merged into Jämsä. Länkipohja () is a locality in Jämsä, Finland, located by the lake Längelmävesi. It was the administrative center of the municipality of Längelmäki, which was divided between Jämsä and Orivesi in 2007. History The village of Länkipohja was populated in the early 16th century and was mentioned as ''Lengellmapohia'', a transcription of the original name, ''Längelmäpohja'', in 1560. The name Längelmäpohja was used until the 18th century, when the current name ''Länkipohja'' appears. Häme Province
The Province of Häme ( fi, Hämeen lääni, sv, Tavastehus län) was a province of Finland from 1831 to 1997. In 1997 the southern parts with Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme was merged with the province of Uusimaa and Kymi into the new Province of Southern Finland. The northern part with Pirkanmaa was merged with the provinces of Vaasa, Central Finland, Turku and Pori into the new Province of Western Finland. Provinces Of Finland
Between 1634 and 2009, Finland was administered as several provinces ( fi, Suomen läänit, sv, Finlands län). Finland had always been a unitary state: the provincial authorities were part of the central government's executive branch and apart from Åland, the provinces had little autonomy. There were never any elected provincial parliaments in continental Finland. The system was initially created in 1634. Its makeup was changed drastically on 1 September 1997, when the number of the provinces was reduced from twelve to six. This effectively made them purely administrative units, as linguistic and cultural boundaries no longer followed the borders of the provinces. The provinces were eventually abolished at the end of 2009. Consequently, different ministries may subdivide their areal organization differently. Pirkanmaa
Pirkanmaa (; sv, Birkaland; la, Birkaria, link=no), also known as ''Tampere Region'' in government documents, is a region of Finland. It borders the regions of Satakunta, South Ostrobothnia, Central Finland, Päijät-Häme, Kanta-Häme and Southwest Finland. Most of the water area in the Kokemäki River watershed is located in the Pirkanmaa region, although Lake Vanajavesi is partly in the Kanta-Häme region. The region got its name from Pirkkala, which in the Middle Ages comprised most of present-day Pirkanmaa. Tampere is the regional center and capital of Pirkanmaa, and at the same time the largest city in the region. The total population of Pirkanmaa was 529,100 on 30 June 2022, which makes it the second largest among Finland's regions after Uusimaa.
