László Papp (entomologist)
László Papp (October 3, 1946 – March 28, 2021) was a Hungarian zoologist, entomologist, parasitologist awarded with the Széchenyi Prize, ordinary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) and fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. Renowned research professor in the field of community ecology and systematics of Diptera. Older brother of the heart surgeon professor Lajos Papp. Biography Papp was born in Aranyosgadány. He started his university studies at the Eötvös Lorand University (ELTE) science faculty in 1965, received his MSc degree in biology in 1970 and the university doctorate in 1971. He became an employee at the Zoology Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM), where he had worked for ten years, then became a primary school teacher in biology for two years in Vecsés. Population Ecology
Population ecology is a sub-field of ecology that deals with the dynamics of species populations and how these populations interact with the environment, such as birth and death rates, and by immigration and emigration. The discipline is important in conservation biology, especially in the development of population viability analysis which makes it possible to predict the long-term probability of a species persisting in a given patch of habitat. Although population ecology is a subfield of biology, it provides interesting problems for mathematicians and statisticians who work in population dynamics. Imre Frivaldszky
Dr Emerich Frivaldszky von Frivald (6 February 1799 in Bacskó, Hungary (now Bačkov, Trebišov District, Slovakia) – 19 October 1870 in Jobbágyi, Hungary), known as Imre Frivaldszky, was a Hungarian botanist and entomologist. Biography Born into a family of landed gentry, Frivaldszky studied at the gymnasiums in Sátoraljaújhely and Eger, then philosophy at the Royal Academy of Kassa. He graduated in medicine from the University of Budapest in 1823. While still a student in Eger he accompanied Pál Kitaibel and Jószef Sadler on botanical excursions. By the time he graduated in medicine he was already assistant curator at the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest in 1822, where he later served as curator until his retirement in 1851. In 1824 he abandoned the practice of medicine and spent the rest of his life as a botanist and zoologist. He made many collecting trips throughout Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Italy. Arnold Ipolyi
Arnold Ipolyi (family name originally Stummer) (20 October 1823 – 2 December 1886) was a Hungary, Hungarian bishop and historian. Life Ipolyi was born in Kosihy nad Ipľom, Ipolykeszi, Hungary (currently ''Kosihy nad Ipľomin'', Slovakia). At the age of 13 he entered the ranks of the alumni of the Archdiocese of Esztergom, studied two years in the Emericianum at Bratislava, Pozsony and later at Trnava, Nagyszombat, and finished at the Pázmáneum at Vienna, where he attended lectures on theology for four years. In 1844 he entered the seminary of Esztergom, took minor orders in 1845, and was ordained priest in 1847.
