László Komár
László Komár (28 November 1944 – 17 October 2012) was a Hungarian rock and roll singer. His most popular songs include "No Miss", "Mondd kis kócos", "Táncoló fekete lakkcipők" and "Mambo Italiano". During his career, he released 18 studio albums. He has sold an overall 3 million records. Born in 1944 in Adásztevel, he was the singer of from 1962 to 1965, which is considered to have been the first rock and roll band in Hungary. In 1966, he took part in the first edition of ''Táncdalfesztivál''. Heavily influenced by Elvis Presley, Komár was widely described as "the Hungarian Elvis". Adásztevel is a village in Veszprém county, Hungary. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Jews lived in the village. In 1840, 149 Jews lived in the village and there was a Jewish cemetery there. Some of them were murdered in the Holocaust. ''Táncdalfesztivál'' (literally ''Festival of dance music'') was series of Hungarian pop music competitions and exhibition shows, airing on the National Television from 1966 to 1994. Significance In a country with only one television channel, Táncdalfesztivál was the premier chance for young musicians to showcase their skills and become well known in the Hungary of the '60s. It was the starting point in the career of the era's most popular performers, like Kati Kovács, Pál Szécsi, Klári Katona or Zsuzsa Koncz. As television sets were just becoming widespread, it also meant a good opportunity to musicians already popular from the radio, but never seen performing live. ATV (Hungary)
ATV (formerly known as Magyar ATV) is the first Hungarian private TV channel, broadcasting continuously since 1989, with a focus on news, public life, and current events. Licensed as a partially public service commercial television station, it is obliged to broadcast public interest programs (news, current affairs, sports, religion) 50% of the time. Because of this special status, the channel is eligible to apply for grants from the government and the radio and television authority. As of 2003 the owner of the channel is the Hungarian Faith Church. It is the first private TV channel in Hungary, being established in late 1989 and airing ever since. Hungaroton
Hungaroton is the oldest record and music publisher company in Hungary. Hungaroton was founded in 1951, when its only competitors in the Hungarian music market were record labels like Melodiya, Supraphon and from other socialist countries. Previously called Qualiton, its name was changed to Hungaroton in the mid-1960s, though the Qualiton brand remained as a label for operetta and gypsy music releases. Also new popular music, rock and jazz labels (Pepita, Bravó, and Krém) were founded. In the early 1990s the massive import of foreign records caused a serious decrease in Hungaroton's sales. Although the original company went into liquidation, new and smaller companies arose on the ruins of Hungaroton. The Hungaroton Gong and Hungaroton Classic companies went private in 1995, and were reunited in 1998 under the name Hungaroton Records Publisher Ltd.
