Lyn Carol Brown (born 13 April 1960) is a British politician serving as Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for West Ham (UK Parliament constituency), West Ham since 2005 United Kingdom general election, 2005. A member of the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party, she was a Shadow Minister for the Home Office from 2015 to 2016, Shadow Policing Minister from 2016 to 2017, HM Treasury, Shadow Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury from 2018 to 2020, and Ministry of Justice (United Kingdom), Shadow Minister for Prisons and Probation from 2020 to 2021. Early life and career Brown was born in London to Joseph and Iris Brown. She was educated at Drew Road Primary School, Silvertown and Plashet School, Plashet Comprehensive School before attending the Whitelands College, Putney (now part of Roehampton University). In 1984 she began work as a social worker for the London Borough of Ealing.

Lynne Brown (born 26 September 1961) is a South African politician who is a former Minister of Public Enterprises and former Premier of the Western Cape Province. She was born in Cape Town and grew up in Mitchells Plain. She was appointed Premier of the Western Cape following the resignation of Ebrahim Rasool in July 2008. Previously, she was Minister for Economic Development and Tourism. She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and an elected member of its National Executive Committee in 2007 and 2012. Monica Lin Brown (born 24 May 1988) is a United States Army sergeant and medic who became the first woman during the War in Afghanistan and only the second woman since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the United States military's third-highest medal for valor in combat. Career In April 2007, after a roadside bomb detonated near a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia Province of Afghanistan, Private First Class Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers by running through insurgent gunfire to reach the wounded and then using her body to shield them while mortar rounds fell nearby. Because women were not formally allowed to participate directly in combat at the time, Brown was pulled back to the base at Khost shortly after the incident. Brown, who joined the Army at age 17, was presented with the Silver Star by Vice President Dick Cheney in a ceremony on 21 March 2008.
