Adrian Lyne
Adrian Lyne (born 4 March 1941) is an English film director, writer and producer. Having begun his career directing 1970s television commercials, Lyne made well-received short films which were entries in the London Film Festival. He started making feature length films in 1980 and is known for sexually charged stories and characters, often using stylised light. He is best known for directing ''Flashdance'', ''9½ Weeks'', '' Fatal Attraction'', ''Jacob's Ladder'' and ''Indecent Proposal''. For directing ''Fatal Attraction'', Lyne received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Director. Early life Lyne was born in Peterborough, Northamptonshire (now Cambridgeshire) and raised in London. Andrew Lyne
Andrew Geoffrey Lyne (born 13 July 1942) is a British physicist. Lyne is Langworthy Professor of Physics in the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Manchester, as well as an ex-director of the Jodrell Bank Observatory. Despite retiring in 2007 he remains an active researcher within the Jodrell Bank Pulsar Group. Lyne was educated at The Portsmouth Grammar School, the Royal Naval School, Tal Handaq, Malta and at St. John's College at the University of Cambridge (natural sciences), continuing to the University of Manchester for a PhD in Radio Astronomy. Lyne writes that he is "mostly interested in finding and understanding radio pulsars in all their various forms and with their various companions. Presently, I am most occupied with the development of new multibeam search systems at Jodrell and Parkes, in order to probe deeper into the Galaxy, particularly for millisecond pulsars, young pulsars and any that might be in binary systems." Becky Lyne
Becky Lyne is a former international middle-distance runner from Great Britain, who won a bronze medal in the 800 metres at the 2006 European Athletics Championships. Early life Lyne was born on 4 July 1982 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. She attended Nether Green Junior School where she found her love for running as part of the cross-country team. She was a pupil at Tapton School, which was also attended by the former Olympic middle-distance champion Sebastian Coe. Following school, Lyne studied Sports Science at Loughborough University where she achieved First Class Honours. She completed a second degree in Spanish at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States in 2003. Carmichael Lyne
Carmichael Lyne (30 July 1861 – 28 November 1929) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 1900 to 1906, representing the seat of Ringarooma. Lyne was born at his family's property near Swansea, Tasmania, the son of pastoralist John Lyne and brother of future Premier of New South Wales William Lyne. He was educated at Horton College before becoming a pastoralist like his father, initially managing his father's Glamorgan property. He was a councillor of the Municipality of Glamorgan, chairman of both the Police Court and Court of Petty Sessions at Glamorgan, warden and chairman of the Glamorgan Road Trust (in 1892–93) and a member of the executive committee of the Tasmanian Pastoral and Agricultural Association. In 1898, Lyne moved from Glamorgan to the Trevallyn Estate near Launceston. He was elected to the House of Assembly at the 1900 election in the seat of Ringarooma. Joseph Leycester Lyne, known by his religious name as Father Ignatius of Jesus ( – ), was an Anglican Benedictine monk. He commenced a movement to reintroduce monasticism into the Church of England. Early life Lyne was born in Trinity Square, in the parish of All Hallows-by-the-Tower, London, on 23 November 1837. He was the second son of seven children of Francis Lyne, merchant of the City of London, by his wife Louisa Genevieve (d. 1877), daughter of George Hanmer Leycester, of White Place, near Maidenhead, Berkshire, who came of the well-known Cheshire family, the Leycesters of Tabley. In October 1847 Lyne entered St Paul's School, London, under Herbert Kynaston. In 1852 he suffered corporal punishment for a breach of discipline. William Lyne
Sir William John Lyne KCMG (6 April 1844 – 3 August 1913) was an Australian politician who served as Premier of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901, and later as a federal cabinet minister under Edmund Barton and Alfred Deakin. He is best known as the subject of the so called " Hopetoun Blunder", unexpectedly being asked to serve as the first Prime Minister of Australia but proving unable to form a government. Lyne was born in Van Diemen's Land, the son of a pastoral farmer. When he was 20, he and cousin took up a sheep station in North West Queensland. However, he moved back home after a few years and found work in local government. Lyne moved to New South Wales in 1875, buying a station near Albury and becoming prominent in community affairs.
