Lynch's Ferry
Lynchburg (also known as Lynch's Ferry) is an unincorporated community in east central Harris County, Texas, United States. History In 1822, Nathaniel Lynch built a ferry to cross the San Jacinto River at the confluence of Buffalo Bayou, claiming a landmark better known as Juan Seguin Historic Park. The ferry connected what would become the community of Lynchburg, on the east side of the crossing with the road to Harrisburg. At the western landing is the location of the San Jacinto Battlefield, where Texan forces under Sam Houston defeated Antonio López de Santa Anna's Mexican forces in 1836. Buffalo Bayou
Buffalo Bayou is a slow-moving river which flows through Houston in Harris County, Texas. Formed 18,000 years ago, it has its source in the prairie surrounding Katy, Texas, Katy, Fort Bend County, Texas, Fort Bend County, and flows approximately east through the Houston Ship Channel into Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. History The school district is traceable to 1922, when a single elementary facility opened on Deer Park's Center Street along Highway 225. In 1929, the small school (approximately 30 students) was greatly expanded, and additional facilities were created in neighboring areas. Sam Houston
Samuel Houston (, ; March 2, 1793 – July 26, 1863) was an American general and statesman who played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution. He served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate. San Jacinto Battlefield
The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site includes the location of the Battle of San Jacinto. It is located off the Houston Ship Channel in unincorporated Harris County, Texas near the city of Houston. The site was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960. A prominent feature of the park is the San Jacinto Monument. Visitors can take an elevator to the monument's observation deck for a view of Houston, the Houston Ship Channel, and the San Jacinto battlefield. Harrisburg (originally Harrisburgh, shortened to Harrisburg in 1892) is a community now located within the city of Houston, Texas. The community is located east of Downtown Houston, south of the Brays Bayou and Buffalo Bayou junction and west of Brady's Island. San Jacinto River (Texas)
The San Jacinto River ( , ) flows through southeast Texas. It is named after Saint Hyacinth. In the past, it was home to the Karankawa and Akokisa tribes. The river begins with a west and east fork; the west fork begins in Walker County, to the west of Huntsville, and flows southeast through Montgomery County, where it is dammed to create Lake Conroe. The east fork begins in San Jacinto County, a few miles west of Lake Livingston, then flows south through Cleveland. The confluence of the west and east forks occurs in northeast Harris County, where the river is dammed to create Lake Houston. Continuing southward, the river merges with Buffalo Bayou before the mouth of Galveston Bay, forming part of the Houston Ship Channel.
