The Mountains classification in the Giro d'Italia is a secondary classification that is a part of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tour (cycling), Grand Tour races. In this classification, points are awarded to the leading riders over designated climbs. The climbs are put into different classifications based on difficulty and their position on that day's stage. Bonus points are given to mountain top finishes and to the first riders over the ''Cima Coppi'', traditionally adjudged as the highest point of the entire Giro. Vito Taccone
Vito Taccone (6 May 1940 – 15 October 2007) was an Italian road cyclist. Taccone made his professional debut in 1961. In the same year he won the Giro di Lombardia. During the 1964 Tour de France, he was accused of causing other cyclists to fall , leading to a fight with Spanish racer Fernando Manzaneque and his non-appearance in following tours. His other victories include one Giro del Piemonte (1962), one Giro della Toscana (1963), one Milano–Torino Milano–Torino is a semi classic European single day cycling race, between the northern Italian cities of Milan and Turin over a distance of 199 kilometres. 1963 Giro D'Italia
The 1963 Giro d'Italia was the 46th running of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tour races. The Giro started in Naples, on 19 May, with a stage and concluded back in Milan, on 9 June, with a leg. A total of 120 riders from 12 teams entered the 21-stage race, which was won by Italian Franco Balmamion of the Carpano team. The second and third places were taken by Italian riders Vittorio Adorni and Giorgio Zancanaro, respectively. Teams Twelve teams were invited by the race organizers to participate in the 1963 edition of the Giro d'Italia. Each team sent a squad of ten riders, which meant that the race started with a peloton of 120 cyclists. From the riders that began the race, 86 made it to the finish in Milan.
