''Lydden is also the name of a hamlet in the Manston, Kent civil parish'' Lydden is a civil parish and small village in the Dover district of Kent, England. The Lydden Race Circuit is located between here and Wootton to the west of the village. Lydden village consists of a triangle of 3 roads: Canterbury Road (part of the old A2 running between Dover, Canterbury and London), Stonehall and Church Lane. Lydden is set in a steep sided valley landscape, with grazing pasture and pockets of woodland along the valley side facing north west, and the extensive Lydden and Temple Ewell Downs National Nature Reserve facing south west. The NNR is famous for its chalk grassland habitat and species including the adonis blue butterfly. Amenities There were two pubs in Lydden, The Lydden Bell (pictured on the right) and The Hope Inn. Manston, Kent
Manston is a village and civil parish in the Thanet district of Kent, England. The village is situated one mile northwest of Ramsgate. The parish includes four hamlets and the former Manston Airport. Etymology The village was originally ''Mannestone'' which means 'farm on top of a hill' (a possible alternative variation is a farm belonging to a man called Mann) and was recorded in 1254 as ''Manneston'', but obtained its modern spelling in 1381 around the time of the Peasants' Revolt. History The discovery of an Anglo-Saxon sword at what is known as the Ozengell burial ground and also 200 graves including a Roman stone and lead-lined coffin, never preserved, show that the site has been occupied for many centuries. Lydden Hill Race Circuit (formerly known as Lydden Circuit) is a motorsport venue in Denton with Wootton, about half-way between Canterbury and Dover in Kent, England. The mile-long circuit is mainly used for Rallycross, Drift, Saloon and Sports car racing as well as Motorcycle racing. It is the shortest road racing circuit in the United Kingdom. The track was previously owned by the McLaren Group and is one of two motor racing circuits in the county of Kent, along with Brands Hatch. History Lydden was founded in 1955 by Bill Chesson with the help of the Astra Motor Club. From 1957, they promoted stock-car racing and grass-track racing for motorcycles. Wootton is a village in the civil parish of Denton with Wootton, and the Dover District of Kent, England. The village is northwest from the channel port of Dover, and east-southeast from the county town of Maidstone. The major A2 London to Dover road is to the northeast. Lydden and Temple Ewell Downs is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Dover in Kent. It is a Special Area of Conservation and Nature Conservation Review site. It is also part of the Lydden Temple Ewell National Nature Reserve and the Lydden Temple Ewell nature reserve, which is managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust. It is in the South Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This site has some of the richest chalk downland in the county.
