Luxembourgian Sportsman Of The Year
The Sportsperson of the Year awards are a group of awards awarded to the most popular Luxembourgish sportsperson of the preceding year. There are two main categories: one for men (french: Trophée du Meilleur Sportif), and one for women (''Trophée de la Meilleure Sportive''). Other awards are given for the best team (''Challenge de la Meilleure Equipe''), best young sportsperson (''Prix du Jeune Espoir''), most honorable sportsperson (''Prix d'Honneur''), and for fair play (''Prix du Fair play''). The current holders of the main awards are Bob Bertemes and Christine Majerus, while the team award is held by F91 Dudelange. Colette Flesch
Colette Flesch (born 16 April 1937 in Dudelange) is a Luxembourgish politician and former fencer. Life She gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Wellesley College in 1960, then earned an M.A. in International Affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, before studying at The Hague Academy of International Law. As a fencer she participated in the Individual foil events at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics. She worked for the European Economic Community in Brussels, specialising in the agricultural side of the Common Market for 5 years. She has served in numerous political capacities, both in government and within the Democratic Party and the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party. Roland Bombardella
Roland Bombardella (born 9 July 1957 in Dudelange) is a Luxembourgish soldier and retired Sprint (running), sprinter. As an athlete, Bombardella held the national record for the 100 metres and 200 metres, and competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics, where he reached the semi-finals of the 200 metres. He won the title of 'Luxembourgish Sportsman of the Year' in four consecutive years (1975 – 1978), a record that has not been equalled. Since 1 January 2006, he has been Luxembourg's 'High Commissioner for National Protection'. He has two twin children Sasha Bombardella and Marc Bombardella. Table tennis, also known as ping-pong and whiff-whaff, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small solid rackets. It takes place on a hard table divided by a net.
